Can I just point out that the movie looks amazing! And also, that in IMAX the final battle is going to be in 3D! That's crazy! I can't wait

I have quite a lot to say. When the movie started I thought I was going to be sick. Dudley's performance was ghastly. Really it was that awful.

But the trio was GREAT beyond words their acting has improved so much over the last years. Ron was more that great best friend again like we saw in the first two films.

Also the bond between Gary and Dan REALLY showed on screen. They worked perferectly together. Amazing.

I loved the suttle looks they added from Ginny too.

But again it wasn't even close to the book. There was so much that was completely changed. I know there is no way to fit everything from the books into the movie but still.

As for if I like or disliked the movie, I'm not sure yet. I may need to watch it again before I make up my mind.

As for David Yates, I did LOVE the fighting scene. It wasn't how I pictured it at all but it was great. But I hated his look on Dementor (changed them). And where was Firenze? Wish we could of seen him teaching. Grawp was cute though. He did good on him and Kreacher. But where was Mrs. Black?

So again not sure yet...

I'd have to agree with you Cocaworm about Dudley. To me the first 45 minutes was really cruddy and fast. The whole movie was way too fast actually, but of course, us avid fans will never be 200% satisfied. ( Although, I was so happy that most of the dialouge was directly from the book!)

The DA stuff was really good I thought, and Imelda Staunton (sp?) was an absolutley brilliant Umbridge. Dumbledore was, again, too angry. To sum up my opinion of the D.O.M battle I'll quote Jason Isaacs: I loved the "serious ninja wandage" biggrin.gif

Evanna Lynch was, by far, the best character match I've seen yet!
The only thing I didn't like about the movie was that it felt way too rushed. GOF was around 3 hours whereas this one was just over 2.

Overall I absolutely loved it and will most definately be seeing it again very soon!

P.S. Please tell me I wasn't the only one who shouted "Levicorpus is a non-verbal spell!!"
P.P.S. Our whole row copied Harry's faint pose near the end danceline.gif

Very RUSHED. All the movies have been close to 3 hours long. This one was the shortest.

Yes, I thought I added these thought last nigh/early this morning, but apparently I didn't.

Evanna, was the best matched character ever. For someone who has never had acting before she was WONDERFUL, and exactly how I pictured her.

And Snape's memory was awful. First it would have made more sense to add Harry looking in the pensieve and then Snape kicking him out. Plus, we were all looking forward to seeing the flashback, and it was what, barely a minute long. They could have added this instead of the whole DA writing lines. To me that was useless film, we didn't have to see that.

And the end with Fred and George, while the fireworks where AMAZING I have to say I would have enjoyed the pond in the great hall more. :-)

And I don't see why they cut Marietta, it wouldn't of taken any extra time at all to add her and let Cho be Cho - but I can see where this alternate version works, too. 'Let's Harry be over Cho for book six.

Plus, has anyone noticed that Flitwick completely changed his appearence in PoA. I think I like the old look better. And also PoA, and I believe GoF, had Padma back in Ravenclaw, but this one has her back in Gryffindor. 'Guess the sorting hat can't make up it's mind where she needs to be. LoL!

You're right, Cocaworm, Padma was in Gryffindor in GoF. A lot of us complained a bunch about it.

I hated just about everything Cuaron did to my favourite book. He didn't understand European magic and folklore, so turned it into "Dia del Muerte"...which is just WRONG! Flitwick and Tom the Inn Keeper at the Leaky Cauldron suffered mightily because of that. He also made Dumbledore look like a drunk reprobate instead of the elegant wizard he's supposed to be. When DD passed his hand over the Fat Lady's torn-up portrait I actually gagged at the dirty yellowed fungussy fingernails. It still creeps me out. Wouldn't it have been nice if the director had at least a passing knowledge of what the character is supposed to be like? *shudders*

However, back to the current flick ~

I expected there to be A LOT more of the Marauders and their era. With all the build up of casting young Snape (who I thought was perfect! - too bad they gave him so little screen time), James and everyone, I expected much much more time for that storyline. It could have been left out entirely for all the time they allowed it.

Snape/Rickman's parts were very well done. They were so changed from the book that comparing them is pointless, but they did make total sense and it worked. I loved the Potions room! *covets the bottles and shelves*

Trelawney's sacking was so under-developed that it could have been left out, too.

There are still lots of problems, most certainly, but on the whole, it is the BEST Potter film yet.

I loved how Chris Columbus did the first two, yet even they had tons left out (Nick's Deathday Party would have been sooo fun to see), and Yates parallels his understanding of the magical-ness they are supposed to have. I think one of the things I like most is the change of screen writer. Kloves made me crazy with his lack of segues. His scripts were always as though he was done with scene A so he jumped right into scene B with little or no connection. His scripts were always disconnected and didn't flow well at all. Michael Goldenberg, on the other hand, makes a whole sensible story.

Grawpy was nothing at all like what I pictured, yet completely perfect! And I liked the change of Hermione there from wimpy hide-and-squeal girl to in-charge person. That change, in my opinion, was an improvement.

I wish they'd have shown the Patronuses more slowly/longer. They flashed past so quickly that it was tough to catch what each was.
And I don't like hurting the castle as a solution to get into the room! That was just WRONG! The castle is too important of a character to treat it like that. It was cool that there were more moving stairways and Filch taking the Portraits down so that no one could see (or tell outsiders about) what was going on. That showed a true understanding of the intent JKR had for the place being integral.

I loved the little touches - Aberforth's Goat, Tonk's hair changing colour of its own accord when she was annoyed, Snuffles turning into Sirius behind the glass divider, etc. This new crew understands how to make magic!!!

I still think it is the best so far!

Yes I loved all those little touches too, but it was just too fast. I still cry when watching GoF and Amos comes down and sees Cedric. That's what OotP needed more grieving time.

I too think its the best yet, only because it was nice that there wasn't a whole lot made up and put in. But still, Yates should've taken his time and spelled everything out for the audience who hasn't read the books. They didn't even put in the entirety of the prphecy..

Bring back fluffy Flitwick! And what was up with him teaching the choir, not Charms? Harry's little neck thing was odd...but I guess that was to show the snakey/voldyness building up in him, since that can't be explained on screen like it is in the book.

I hated the "Snape's worst memory". That was almost a whole chapter and it only got a few watery seconds on screen. Hmph.

I suppose I'll always have more critism than praise... regret.gif

Here, have some chocolate.gif It will make all those worrisome things fade away. yes.gif

You guys are right about it going way too fast. I guess the otheres were just SOOOO jammed that this one seems leisurely to me by contrast.
I had a problem with the snake in the DoM. I like how it was filmed getting to Arthur, but then - and I guess it has to do with not wanting to be too graphic - it seemed to fall short. And without St. Mungos, to just place him at Grimmauld Place, I sort of wondered if that part of the story would be comprehensible to anyone who didn't already know what it was about.

And speaking of #12, I always pictured separate buildings. It's supposed to be a ratty old Victorian house rather than a row house. And it wasn't icky enough outside. Still, it's cool how they slide it into place.

I think I need to go back and see it at least 6 more times. shifty.gif Preferably in the next day.

At least these DEs look less like they are from Planet of the Apes than the GoF ones.

I wasn't sure how I'd like Cho as the sneak, but it decidedly adds to everyone and everything going awful for Harry.

What one place did you laugh or applaud that the rest of the audience (or most of them, anyhow), didn't?

Nope my almost 14 year old brother went with me and he didn't understand hardly any of it. He don't read the books due to reading problems and doesn't want them read to him (makes him feel stupid he says.) So he enjoys the movies. And I felt bad for him not being able to enjoy this one as much because so much was for reading fans. I had to explain quite a lot on the way home. I just wish people that don't or can't read the books was able to enjoy what we enjoy when reading it. :-/

At the beginning when they got it unstuck (after being stuck for 13 minutes.) LoL! But I think almost everyone cheered on that one. :-)

Oh I wish I had someone down here as into Harry as I am. I would have loved to dress up. I dyed my hair yesterday and it turned out the exact color of Bonnie Wrights. About the same length too. So all I need is Gryffindor or Weasley sweater and I'm set. LoL!

You could always get the books on tape/CD and play them when he's a captive audience (like sitting in the kitchen while you're making dinner, or driving in the car is even better because he can't get up and leave).
Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!

I have all of them and am forever popping one into the player when I have something to do. It's great fun to think of how Neville is changing while peeling potatoes! Or why TDL has any followers at all when he keeps being thwarted at every turn by Harry - whilst scrubbing out the toilet.

Speaking of scrubbing -

Did you think how they had Aunt Petunia dressed was wrong? I didn't like it at all. It was too risque for her. (And if Richard Griffiths gets any fatter he's going to die! Jeeze Louise!)
