QUOTE (chad13 @ Dec 9 2006, 06:13 PM) I think Harry will make it too, or at least I hope so, haha. I think Peter will probably go, he owes Harry for one, and he was Marauder, and so far they have a very poor life expectancy. I would love to see Bellatrixa dn Snape duel it out a bit, they hate each other so much, plus one of them would have to die, and at least one of them probably is. Don't forget though, Lupin's a Marauder too... and he's still alive. D'you think that JK would do him in so soon after he finds happiness?
Ah, my brain spaced on the Peter/debt thing... that'd be a good hint to her doing him in, wouldn't it.
That last bit would be a toss up for me... I'd like to see Bellatrix go (poor Sirius, *sniffsniff*) but then again... I've never been big on Snape...
I'd be the first in line to push her away from dear old draco dying, but I have a strong feeling that he's gonna get his cute lil butt fried. Voldie's gonna find out about him not being able to follow through with orders, and that's gonna drive him mad. Not even Snape can stand between Voldie and a dead man.
That would just be cruel, doing Hagrid in like that. If Harry lives and then Hagrid dies, he'll be running short on adults that were nice to him. I reckon that if I were in that situation and all, I'd do myself in, cos I'd feel like a walking death omen.
Does anyone here think that JK would possibly ever end the book with Harry dying and Voldie living? I can't see that... Voldie's on the top of my list.

Dumbledore's already told us that evil can't be killed, only held at bay (in HBP). I think that's a huge hint.
We all want to see TDL done in - and he's such a characterature at this point that he pretty much has to be neutralized - but I bet we see something futile about it... either one horcrux can't be destroyed so we know he'll be back, or one of the evil followers *coughLuciuscough* will be ready to fill the void.
As to Harry, that could go either way. There have been so many hints that he will die through all the books that it seems very likely, and JKR said that she liked the idea that no one else could write him. Still, we all need a bit of optomism ... but, what happens when the "glory days" are past? A pathetic washed up old Harry would be really sad. Romeo and Juliet are classics because of the lack of disillusionment about their love - idealized, no one had the chance to argue about dirty socks in the livingroom. Dumbledore understood (it's why he placed him at Privet Drive) from firsthand experience. He defeated Grindlewald; he knew the pitfalls of flattery and hero-worship, falling from grace, all of it.

AHA! This sorta adds to a theory I've had spinning around in my head for a while! In OOTP Dumbledore states that there are other ways of destroying a man besides killing him. I think that Harry WON'T kill Voldemort but will somehow return him to his original "Tom Riddle" that had a conscious. I think doing so would make TDL feel so terrible and the weight of all the horrible things he's done - to himself and others- will force him to live forever with these horrible memories because not all the horcruxes will be destroyed. The prophecy will still be fulfilled because the essence of "Voldemort" will be dead/destroyed.

When I contemplate the likely hood of Harry's deaht I just keep going back to JK talking about the wording of the prophecy, and how the 6th book would bring us back the Chamber of Secrets. QUOTE The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches ... born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies ... and the Dark Lord will mark him as an equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not ... and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives ... the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies ...' so the one line we really need to interrptrut it seems is: and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives Which brings us back to our first look at a horcrux, the diary, where as Ginny was dying Riddle was getting stronger, a kind of transfer. Neither one of them was a completely alive at that point really, only in pieces. Voldmort at this point is obviously in pieces (though more alive than he was before) but that leaves the question of harry, who seems very much alive, and living. So I don't know if Harry's going to die, though I hope not, and of course we won't know until the seventh book, but I don't think we'll get close until we understand the prophecy. Any thoughts?

QUOTE and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives This has bothered me ever since I first read it. They are both surviving right now, at the same time. QUOTE and either must die at the hand of the other OK, that's easy enough. "Either" means one or the other. BUT - QUOTE for neither can live while the other survives If both are surviving and living when it says that "neither" can, it seems like turning the whole phrase around to "both can survive while the other lives" makes just as much sense. JKR said she chose the words carefully. The words contradict eachother. *throws hands up and shrugs* QUOTE I wonder if TDL can die from getting old? It would seem that if all the Horcruxes are destroyed, he'd be human again, so he could. But wouldn't he be too dangerous to allow him the chance to create another Horcrux? It's about the only thing would trust him to do for sure...do something to keep himself from dying... well, that and continuing to be mean and evil.

QUOTE We could just turn him into a ferret and be done with him. I think you're on to something! But then, would there be an army of evil ferrets? Here's another one: JKR writes book 7, we read it, all questions answered, the end.

What is up with the title. What does Hallows mean? Webster defines it as: 1: to make holy or set apart for holy use 2 : to respect greatly I wonder how JK defines it. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that hallows ties to my opposite of a horcurx theory. I've also tied it to the prophecy-- QUOTE and either must die at the hand of the other either refers to Harry's soul and Lily's partial soul--the one she put in Harry to save him from Voldemort. The Hallow or (hallows-Voldie did one piece in with the Avada curse) QUOTE for neither can live while the other survives The pieces of souls are struggling within Harry. Both have a purpose, but neither can function with the other there. The Hallow inside Harry is what will prove deadly to Voldemort. This is why Harry will have the power to vanquish the Dark Lord. After deystroying the horcruxes, Harry will go after the final piece of soul--the one inside Voldemort. Of course, this could all be the ramblings of a fan who has finally gone mad.

QUOTE Of course, this could all be the ramblings of a fan who has finally gone mad. Isn't that redundandt? That logic does tie it in well with your theory. Some definitions take the "set apart for holy use" to cover sacred items. That's how it connects with the Horcruxes for me. Deathly Hallows would be deathly objects. What worries me, we know that Harry has Hermione on his side (and can tap into Bill's experience with curse-breaking), but she's really only been exposed to "good" influences, even in the Restricted Section. How will Harry have the advantages that Dumbledore had (either from experience or from Severus' Dark Arts understandings) to combat the mega-curses TDL puts on these things? Even a big dog like Dumbledore lost a hand to the Ring's protections.

I wonder how JK defines it. I was thinking it might have to do with the Orphanage/Voldemort's past. A lot of orphanages are founded by churches...that would tie in with the hallows part. I don't think that the title will be the major object of the book. Since Goblet of Fire the title has appeared in the plot but not been the central focus. HMMMMM

Aside from what timeturner found as definitions for Hallows, it can also refer to a deceased person, as in "All Hallow's Eve (the night between years when the spirits of the dead that have scores to settle, can return).
So, I'm beginning to think that "Deathly Hallows" means one of two somewhat similar things...
(Lesser of the possibilities) Sirius or Harry's parents will be resurected somehow and used to throw Harry off task. (More probable of the possibilities) - There's also the aspect where Dumbledore told Draco that the Order hides people by making the rest of the world think they are dead. The Deathly Hallows could also be Order members that "don't exist" working in secret. Members like Emaline Vance and others we've heard of dying but don't have definite confirmations on.
