The Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures presentsTHE YULE DUEL
The first Project Ferret Duel to award prizes!

THE RULES

First off, you must be a member of Project Ferret to play. See this post on how to join. It's not hard!

In honour of the three “new” characters from the upcoming movie of Prisoner of Azkaban (Trelawney, Black, and Lupin)
AND the holidays which are fast approaching:

What did the Three “new” characters DO for the holidays during Harry's third year at Hogwarts?

Here's the brief version of how the game works. Make sure you read the more detailed rules below.

1. Read the scene mission here every Friday afternoon.
2. Write your submission and post it in the corresponding Topic - Canon or Wheezes by the following Wednesday noon. (Canon is for stories that adhere to the Harry Potter Canon, by which we mean anything JKR has written or said about Harry's world; Wheezes is for parody stories.)
3. Read all the submissions and vote on your favorite one every Wednesday to Friday.
4. On Friday at noon, polls will close and the winner will be announced, the new scene mission will be posted soon thereafter.

First Mission:
Final week of classes before Holidays.
Clever way of discovering what one of the three intends to do while students away
Hagrid’s worst gift plans
Use the word “asphodel” or “Proteus” or “pottle” or “menhir” (Bonus for using more than one of these words in same submission if yours is picked as the weekly winner.)

Rules:
(1) Contest begins Friday, November 21, 2003. Ends Monday December 22, 2003 [on the Solstice! Won’t Trelawney be proud of us!]. Weekly missions posted each Friday. Since the next week’s storyline plays from the winning submission, this should be exciting watching it take whatever direction(s) the muse guides us! Submissions accepted until Wednesday at noon, Central Time. Voting in the poll is open from noon Wednesday to noon on Friday.

(2) All submissions in either movie script or prose format. Canon submissions should be posted in the Canon thread, and parody submissions in the Wheezes thread.

(3) Awards: A Lupin or Trelawney awarded weekly to whomever’s submission receives the most votes in the weekly poll in each division (two prizes per week). If there is only one submission in a given division, the submissions may be lumped together for voting. On Dec 20 through 22nd, we will all vote on our favourite, regardless of its having won a weekly award or not. The submission receiving the most votes wins the Sirius Prize. In the event of a tie, we will have an “overtime” round, one more submission from each of the tied Ferrets (visual of leashes connecting cute little fur-balls) and a poll to decide the outcome.

(4) All posts must follow the board guidelines. Make sure you click on "Project Ferret Guidelines" (at the top of every screen, right below Draco) and read them before you begin.

REMINDERS:

(1) We want to meet all the Ferrets, so please fill out your Intro in the Ferret Lounge section! [Bonus Surprise if you win a round and your Personal Profile is filled out, too!!]

(2) Invite the other good writers you know to join us!

Neither of these is a requirement for the contest - we just want to enlarge our ferret family.

THE PRIZES

Weekly contest prizes:
Choice of

(1) Trelawney’s Divination Room: Tea suitable for drinking, but you could possibly divine a Grim or two. Incense and candles to set the mood. A scarf or two or other Divination’s Classroom paraphernalia. Sorry, no bug-eyed glasses or crystal balls.

Or

(2) Professor Lupin’s Defense Against the Dark Arts: “Quality” chocolate to ward off Holiday Dementors.

Grand Prize:
The “Sirius Prize” Time Turner To save your cookies this Holiday. [Not guaranteed to work for other than Hogwarts Graduates, but still delightful to look at]. This is a very nice hourglass with a Pegasus flying on one side. We'll try to get a picture of it posted soon. It is about 5” tall, 3 or so in diameter.
