First time through I was identified as a Siberian Husky.

Since I don't have blue eyes I took it again and got Golden Retreiver.

... Remus eats bagels? Seems to me, though, he'd recognize Peter from twenty paces, in the dark, with his eyes blindfolded.

He didn't recognize peter because it had been 12 years since he's seen him, he was quite shabbier, was missing a finger, and Remus never saw his face in full light.

Remus is British, though - they don't DO bagels. Should have been scones or something.

I can tell you for a fact I recognized somebody I knew in Kindergarten ten years later, though I hadn't seen them in that long. And they didn't have a particularly striking face. And that's after major facial structure changes of maturity - not just a few grey hairs. Add to that that it was me, nearsighted as a bat, and that Remus is a very, very, smart person ... I'm sorry, but I just can't buy it.

I could rrecognize someone from kindergarten too but could you recognize them another ten years later in the dark only hearing them say one word, plus thinking that they had been dead for eleven/twelve years?

Buuuuuuuut I guess thats your opinion, not JKR's written word (In my opinion I don't think Sirius would say "Ice Hot" all the time. )

I think he would, (obviously) and I'll tell you why. He was brought up by a pair of very stuffy and formal purebloods. He's rebelling against them, and everything they taught him. He'd go out and find slang terms to use just to rub them the wrong way.
He's trying to buck convention - how many teens have you seen that, to defy their parents, pick up unusual slang or even swearing simply to set themselves apart? Now, I agree that Ice Hot is a very silly thing to say, and would probably stick out like a sore thumb. But Sirius is SPECIAL.

Recognizing in the dark ... Remus is a Werewolf. I've always thought he could just tell simply from smelling somebody at that distance, but the story's yours of course.

I know Remus is a werewolf but I don't think he ever sharpened his senses enough to recognize someone who hasn't taken a bath in years' scent. I orgionally had him slightly drunk when he first sees Peter which could explain why he didn't recognize him...aaaand Peter tried to keep his face hidden.

On the ice hot thing..I agree buuuuuut I think its still not "special enough" for Sirius Buuuut as you said it your story
