HOW TO GET SENT TO AZKABAN!, Challenge guidelines Options

Some of our ferrets have been very naughty... bending the wills of our favorite Harry Potter book characters to make them do whatever the story calls for. The most powerful among you will be SENT TO AZKABAN!!!

You'll be given 2 weeks to bend a few more wills and write about some specific events in Harry Potter's world from Sirius Black's point of view.

Yes, you read correctly... Sirius Black - the notorious criminal and escaped convict!

At the end of the two week period, Ferrets from all over the fandom (okay - just our own members) will vote for their favorites. The writers of the top three favorites will be SENT TO AZKABAN!!!

Here are the details:

1. Submissions will be open from Saturday May 8 to Saturday May 22, 2004.

2. A poll of members from the wee hours of Sunday May 23 to Noon Central on Tuesday May 25 will determine the top four favorite submissions - the writers of which will win the following:

1st place : 5 Galleons (approx. US$36.64)
2nd place : 4 Galleons (approx. US$29.32)
3rd place : 3 Galleons (approx. US$21.99)
4th place : 2 Galleons (approx. US$14.66)

3. You must write about one of the following events from Sirius Black's point of view:

The Secret Keeper (Changing the Potters' Secret Keeper)
The Betrayal (The Confrontation With Peter in The Street)
The Ray Of Hope (Fudge, The Daily Prophet and Making The Escape Plan)
The Escape From Azkaban
Breaking Into Gryffindor Tower
Revelations In The Shrieking Shack
Date With A Hippogriff (Sirius and Buckbeak's escape from death)

4. You may write for as many story choices as you want - one submission per story choice. Parody submissions are welcome, and will compete with canon submissions.

5. Writers can only win once - if a second submission places highly he/she will get Kudos, but no galleons... though for every additional submission by a winning author, a Sickle will be added to his/her cauldron.

Members who've seen or written the submissions so far will notice that things have changed in the Azka-duel Forum. This should help us all keep things straight and remind us what each writer has chosen as their story mission.

I have many questions: May this be an AU story as well? How long should it be? Must it be from Sirius' POV alone? Can there be other POVs included? Must it be from 1st person POV? Can it be from 3rd person, but still in Sirius' POV? Sorry...I'm full of q's!

AU is not good (unless you consider Parodies AU - parodies are great fun! But, even then, stick with canon as much as you can). Submissions should be canon.

Length can be pretty much whatever you'd like, though much over three or four pages in Word is getting a bit long. "Multiple chapters" is too long. Tell your story as you need to though. Be sure to Title it and post it in the appropriate category.

Yes, it must be from Sirius' viewpoint, though do it in whatever voice you are comfortable with.

There are several subs up already that are good examples of much of what you are asking. Read them and see if they help give you a feel for how these work.

Confusion has flooded my limited abilities and my mind is refusing to function properly, perhaps you can be of assistance. In the prize portion, it says that the top four winners will receive prizes, yet it lists only three prizes. What does the fourth place person get, a pat on the back and the pride of a job well done?
