Word of the Day Challenge

I'll post a new word for each day, including its definition(s). All words are courtesy of the Oxford English Dictionary unless otherwise noted.

Ferrets are asked to write a short ficlet (between 100-500 words) and include a WotD.

Submissions can be any genre, about any canon character(s) in any time period.

• There is no deadline.
• You may use any previously listed WotD once.
• You may use more than one WotD in a single submission.
• Please give each submission a title.
• You should specify the WotD used at the end of your post.
• All subs are to be posted in this topic.
• Comments for submissions must be posted in the WotD Discussion topic.
• Each submission will count as 2 Ferret Points (10 galleons) towards its writer's earnings in the Hogwarts Bathroom Fund Drive.

Loony & Weasle's Secret - Part I

Ron snuck through the dark and empty halls of Hogwarts hoping to merlin that he wouldn't get caught. He was drenched from his bright red head to his freckled toes in water and mud, luckily Ron remembered to ask Hermione the incantation that would clean up his muddy tracks through the halls and was busy casting the spell when someone stumbled rather gracefully behind him.

Ron spun around, his wand out and heart beating, "Who's that?"

"Hello Ronald. I was going up to the owlry to send some special Kippers to my father," said an airy voice from the shadows.

"Luna, is that you?"

The blond Ravenclaw stepped forward, holding a small parcel and looking at him as if she was mildly surprised at his damp appearance.

"I ... er ..." Ron stammered, "... Luna, please don't tell anyone I was out."

"You might want to wash that mud off quickly, tiny Reevle Ninjas are known to nestle in mud," she merely replied, then walked past Ron towards the Owlry.

Ron lowered his wand arm and was about to call to Luna when he suddenly felt that tingly feeling in his nose ....

"A-CHOO!" Ron Sneezed

Luna spun around, seemingly startled and said, "Gesundheit, Ronald."

"Thank-you ... Luna, what happened to your leg?" Luna's robes had fluttered behind her right leg when she spun around and revealed a long, deep, diagonal scratch on the calf of her leg.

"Oh ... I have to hurry and send this parcel off." Luna floated away, rather hastily, around the corner to the Owlry.

Ron only pondered upon what he had just seen for only a minute before he quickly ran to the Prefects Bathroom, casting the clean up spell behind him the whole way.
