She doesn't look clumsy to me!

What do you think? Cast well? [Want the pic posted here, rather than a link?]

I don't know, I'm hoping that she's not really in normal costume, especially because of the hair, is it that hard to make it bubble gum pink? I hope she can act the part, truth be told except for the trio a lot of the cast don't look their parts, but it's even more dissappointing when they don't act them correctly as well.

I agree. *glowers at Gambon's "Dumbledore"* The hair is kinda odd. It's supposed to be short and spiky. Now it just looks like my moms Halloween wig. (except that it had cat ears )

Gambon gets the quirky part of Dumbledore, he just doesn't have the calm presence Richard Harris used to have, and that part of Dumbledore is really important in the fifth book and from what I saw in the forth movie I don't know if he'll be able to pull it off.

I seriously doubt Gambon will do Dumbledore justice since he has a track record of not already. Grrrr! I really really - no even more than that - wish they'd replace him.

Tonks' hair is all different lengths and looks in the books. Sometimes she's a little old gray-haired lady, other times it's long, or spikey, or lots of different ways and colours.

I totally agree that Michael Gambon can't do what Richard Harris once did. I always admired Dumbledore in the books for his calmness and kind superiority, but Gambon can't bring out that part of him. In GoF, when Harry becomes a champion, Gambon actually acts angry at Harry, which totally shocked me, because Dumbledore is actually never angry at Harry (maybe in HBP), plus he never yells at him, because he doesn't think it good means to tell Harry something. And in that specific part, in the book, Dumbledore is more taken aback and really surprised (not in a good way, obviously) and not angry like in the movie.

And I'm sorry, but Tonks really looks like a punk to me on that picture. biggrin.gif And in the book, she's more of a clumsy, cheery person...

By the way, what do you think about Evanna Lynch (Luna)? I think her hair could've been darker (it says dirty blonde in the book), but apart from that, she looks suited.

I think Evanna Lynch has the potential to make a really good Luna, but again, we'll have to wait and see hwo she acts the part.

Despite the descriptions in the book I always pictured it white-blonde. I think it will be fine.

On the topic of hair, my inner fangirl is mad that Daniel Radcliffe shall be sporting a short do. Harry does-not-have-short-hair. grrr

I just hope they keep his hair "untidy" like they've been trying to do in the 3rd anf 4th movies.

That was the funniest thing I have read in weeks. Thanks for the giggle, lupinsmyman! laugh.gif

Re: Tonks. I only saw the one pic, but I thought she looked alright. I could see the heart-shaped face and all. I do hope that we get to see pink hair somewhere along the line though. And, I hope they let her goofy, clumsy, young, cool attitude come out in the flick. She just won't be right without it.

Have they released any pictures of Charlie, yet? I'm most curious to see him.

The pics I"m most excited for are the marauders from "snape's worst memory" , but I doubt we'll see any of those for awhile.

You almost need a microscope, but the characters are Young Snape and Harry. (I love the tree! )

And, you're right, Lupins! It is SOOOO wrong for Harry's hair to be that short!

Man, you all are a picky lot! LOL

Personally on the "Gamdon Issue". I like Gamdon better! * runs and hides* Harris had the proper look for DD, but Gamdon has the Energy that Harris, although a brilliant actor, was lacking . Just my op.

As for Tonks ... When we first "see" her in OoTP her hair IS PURPLE!! ... 'never really specifies if its long or short. She does not change it to short spikey and pink until she goes up to "help Harry pack" when she sees her reflection in his wardrobe mirror.

And personally, I always picture Tonks a bit Tomboy, bit Punk, but that DOES NOT mean she won't come across clumsy or fun just because of how she looks! Wait to judge till until after the movie, or at least a trailer.

As for Luna, I think she is perfect for Luna . From quotes I have read from Dan and Emma, they think she is perfect. If I'm remembering correctly, Emma said something to the effect of - "It's hard to tell when shes out of character. She IS Luna". I will have to find the quotes and post them. For now, the fact that the cast has given their nod, is good enough . I mean, come on, we need to give them a chance before we judge!

I think so too, timeturner, and I found the little bit they had to say about her. This is cross posted from my site.

Some of Evanna's new castmates were interviewed sortly after Evannas interview with Lizo from CBBC and this is what they had to say:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is what Dan had to say about the new Luna:

Quote: Evanna is lovely. Evanna is sort of... not a million miles away from Luna herself!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As for Emma Watson's comment:

Quote: I have to say, she is Luna, she is literally Luna. I can't tell the difference between her on camera and off camera.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Katie (Cho Chang) also had this to say about Evanna:

Quote:She's great, she's just having such a great time.

Thank you to Danradcliffe.com for the fellow potter actors comments!

ABC Family To Show OotP Sneak Peek; Airing Possible Footage from Trailer

Several readers have let us know that ABC Family is currently airing a commercial for the upcoming Harry Potter Weekend we first told you about last week that may contain new footage from OotP. In this commercial, new footage of Harry flying on a broom over the River Thames is shown, and this matches part of what TLC described in our transcript of the new teaser trailer. During the ABC Family Harry Potter weekend, due to air Dec 1-3, a broadcast of the extended version (with probable deleted scenes) of Prisoner of Azkaban will be also shown December 3 at 7:30pm (EST), along with a new sneak look at the upcoming Order of the Phoenix.

The teaser trailer for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is due to be shown in movie theatres this weekend before Happy Feet. A reminder as well that a sneak peek at OotP will be shown on cable station HBO Nov. 20 as well.

I am still very leary about what Harry is forced to cut into the back of his hand, but everything -- and I do mean EVERYTHING -- that they showed looks EXCELLENT!!!

Bella is PERFECT! WOW!

And the DA looks great! (Okay, a little thin, not quite as numerous as in the books, but I liked what I saw!)

Wait a minute, I did see a couple things that I didn't love.
The haircuts! That short makes Harry look wrong... looks like he's being sent to the real Army.
Then - Umbridge's pink is too dark. She's supposed to look rediculously girlish, so it should be pale/pastel pink... And where's her "fly" bow?

But the rest was wonderful.

the problem with Harry's hair being short is it can't be messy that way, but everything else looks sweet!! I'm so excited, I don't know how I'll make it until July! The bits they'd showed from the department of mysteries, and how they actually have fighting wand moves!! smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

The hair is weird. My cousin said the same thing. "It's supposed to be untidy!"

July does seem so far away. I love the promos, but they make the waiting awful hard.

I can't wait to see if the book comes out at around the same time as the movie. I would like a Super-July. Plus, what would be cooler than the 7th book coming out on the 7th day of the 7th month of 07.

BELLA IS ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL! She's crazy! I can't wait for the Weasley christmas dinner! Geez. Does July really have to be so far away?

I'm still crossing my fingers for 07/07/07!

I have quite a lot to say. When the movie started I thought I was going to be sick. Dudley's performance was ghastly. Really it was that awful.

But the trio was GREAT beyond words their acting has improved so much over the last years. Ron was more that great best friend again like we saw in the first two films.

Also the bond between Gary and Dan REALLY showed on screen. They worked perferectly together. Amazing.

I loved the suttle looks they added from Ginny too.

But again it wasn't even close to the book. There was so much that was completely changed. I know there is no way to fit everything from the books into the movie but still.

As for if I like or disliked the movie, I'm not sure yet. I may need to watch it again before I make up my mind.

As for David Yates, I did LOVE the fighting scene. It wasn't how I pictured it at all but it was great. But I hated his look on Dementor (changed them). And where was Firenze? Wish we could of seen him teaching. Grawp was cute though. He did good on him and Kreacher. But where was Mrs. Black?

So again not sure yet...

I'd have to agree with you Cocaworm about Dudley. To me the first 45 minutes was really cruddy and fast. The whole movie was way too fast actually, but of course, us avid fans will never be 200% satisfied. ( Although, I was so happy that most of the dialouge was directly from the book!)

The DA stuff was really good I thought, and Imelda Staunton (sp?) was an absolutley brilliant Umbridge. Dumbledore was, again, too angry. To sum up my opinion of the D.O.M battle I'll quote Jason Isaacs: I loved the "serious ninja wandage" biggrin.gif

Evanna Lynch was, by far, the best character match I've seen yet!
The only thing I didn't like about the movie was that it felt way too rushed. GOF was around 3 hours whereas this one was just over 2.

Overall I absolutely loved it and will most definately be seeing it again very soon!

P.S. Please tell me I wasn't the only one who shouted "Levicorpus is a non-verbal spell!!"
P.P.S. Our whole row copied Harry's faint pose near the end danceline.gif

Very RUSHED. All the movies have been close to 3 hours long. This one was the shortest.

Yes, I thought I added these thought last nigh/early this morning, but apparently I didn't.

Evanna, was the best matched character ever. For someone who has never had acting before she was WONDERFUL, and exactly how I pictured her.

And Snape's memory was awful. First it would have made more sense to add Harry looking in the pensieve and then Snape kicking him out. Plus, we were all looking forward to seeing the flashback, and it was what, barely a minute long. They could have added this instead of the whole DA writing lines. To me that was useless film, we didn't have to see that.

And the end with Fred and George, while the fireworks where AMAZING I have to say I would have enjoyed the pond in the great hall more. :-)

And I don't see why they cut Marietta, it wouldn't of taken any extra time at all to add her and let Cho be Cho - but I can see where this alternate version works, too. 'Let's Harry be over Cho for book six.

Plus, has anyone noticed that Flitwick completely changed his appearence in PoA. I think I like the old look better. And also PoA, and I believe GoF, had Padma back in Ravenclaw, but this one has her back in Gryffindor. 'Guess the sorting hat can't make up it's mind where she needs to be. LoL!

You're right, Cocaworm, Padma was in Gryffindor in GoF. A lot of us complained a bunch about it.

I hated just about everything Cuaron did to my favourite book. He didn't understand European magic and folklore, so turned it into "Dia del Muerte"...which is just WRONG! Flitwick and Tom the Inn Keeper at the Leaky Cauldron suffered mightily because of that. He also made Dumbledore look like a drunk reprobate instead of the elegant wizard he's supposed to be. When DD passed his hand over the Fat Lady's torn-up portrait I actually gagged at the dirty yellowed fungussy fingernails. It still creeps me out. Wouldn't it have been nice if the director had at least a passing knowledge of what the character is supposed to be like? *shudders*

However, back to the current flick ~

I expected there to be A LOT more of the Marauders and their era. With all the build up of casting young Snape (who I thought was perfect! - too bad they gave him so little screen time), James and everyone, I expected much much more time for that storyline. It could have been left out entirely for all the time they allowed it.

Snape/Rickman's parts were very well done. They were so changed from the book that comparing them is pointless, but they did make total sense and it worked. I loved the Potions room! *covets the bottles and shelves*

Trelawney's sacking was so under-developed that it could have been left out, too.

There are still lots of problems, most certainly, but on the whole, it is the BEST Potter film yet.

I loved how Chris Columbus did the first two, yet even they had tons left out (Nick's Deathday Party would have been sooo fun to see), and Yates parallels his understanding of the magical-ness they are supposed to have. I think one of the things I like most is the change of screen writer. Kloves made me crazy with his lack of segues. His scripts were always as though he was done with scene A so he jumped right into scene B with little or no connection. His scripts were always disconnected and didn't flow well at all. Michael Goldenberg, on the other hand, makes a whole sensible story.

Grawpy was nothing at all like what I pictured, yet completely perfect! And I liked the change of Hermione there from wimpy hide-and-squeal girl to in-charge person. That change, in my opinion, was an improvement.

I wish they'd have shown the Patronuses more slowly/longer. They flashed past so quickly that it was tough to catch what each was.
And I don't like hurting the castle as a solution to get into the room! That was just WRONG! The castle is too important of a character to treat it like that. It was cool that there were more moving stairways and Filch taking the Portraits down so that no one could see (or tell outsiders about) what was going on. That showed a true understanding of the intent JKR had for the place being integral.

I loved the little touches - Aberforth's Goat, Tonk's hair changing colour of its own accord when she was annoyed, Snuffles turning into Sirius behind the glass divider, etc. This new crew understands how to make magic!!!

I still think it is the best so far!

Yes I loved all those little touches too, but it was just too fast. I still cry when watching GoF and Amos comes down and sees Cedric. That's what OotP needed more grieving time.

I too think its the best yet, only because it was nice that there wasn't a whole lot made up and put in. But still, Yates should've taken his time and spelled everything out for the audience who hasn't read the books. They didn't even put in the entirety of the prphecy..

Bring back fluffy Flitwick! And what was up with him teaching the choir, not Charms? Harry's little neck thing was odd...but I guess that was to show the snakey/voldyness building up in him, since that can't be explained on screen like it is in the book.

I hated the "Snape's worst memory". That was almost a whole chapter and it only got a few watery seconds on screen. Hmph.

I suppose I'll always have more critism than praise... regret.gif

Here, have some chocolate.gif It will make all those worrisome things fade away. yes.gif

You guys are right about it going way too fast. I guess the otheres were just SOOOO jammed that this one seems leisurely to me by contrast.
I had a problem with the snake in the DoM. I like how it was filmed getting to Arthur, but then - and I guess it has to do with not wanting to be too graphic - it seemed to fall short. And without St. Mungos, to just place him at Grimmauld Place, I sort of wondered if that part of the story would be comprehensible to anyone who didn't already know what it was about.

And speaking of #12, I always pictured separate buildings. It's supposed to be a ratty old Victorian house rather than a row house. And it wasn't icky enough outside. Still, it's cool how they slide it into place.

I think I need to go back and see it at least 6 more times. shifty.gif Preferably in the next day.

At least these DEs look less like they are from Planet of the Apes than the GoF ones.

I wasn't sure how I'd like Cho as the sneak, but it decidedly adds to everyone and everything going awful for Harry.

What one place did you laugh or applaud that the rest of the audience (or most of them, anyhow), didn't?

Nope my almost 14 year old brother went with me and he didn't understand hardly any of it. He don't read the books due to reading problems and doesn't want them read to him (makes him feel stupid he says.) So he enjoys the movies. And I felt bad for him not being able to enjoy this one as much because so much was for reading fans. I had to explain quite a lot on the way home. I just wish people that don't or can't read the books was able to enjoy what we enjoy when reading it. :-/

At the beginning when they got it unstuck (after being stuck for 13 minutes.) LoL! But I think almost everyone cheered on that one. :-)

Oh I wish I had someone down here as into Harry as I am. I would have loved to dress up. I dyed my hair yesterday and it turned out the exact color of Bonnie Wrights. About the same length too. So all I need is Gryffindor or Weasley sweater and I'm set. LoL!

You could always get the books on tape/CD and play them when he's a captive audience (like sitting in the kitchen while you're making dinner, or driving in the car is even better because he can't get up and leave).
Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!

I have all of them and am forever popping one into the player when I have something to do. It's great fun to think of how Neville is changing while peeling potatoes! Or why TDL has any followers at all when he keeps being thwarted at every turn by Harry - whilst scrubbing out the toilet.

Speaking of scrubbing -

Did you think how they had Aunt Petunia dressed was wrong? I didn't like it at all. It was too risque for her. (And if Richard Griffiths gets any fatter he's going to die! Jeeze Louise!)

He don't live with me. He lives with my mother. :-) But I would love having them on tape myself. I have been thinking about just haven't had the money lately. One of these days! :-D

And Like I said I hated the Pivet Drive. All of it was awful. ALL!!!

This is a review at SS. It is pretty close to how I saw the film. She even set up this review really well with pictures and everything.

Which reminds me, the part where Voldermort is inside Harry was GREAT. That was the best part of the movie and great acting on Dan's part. Loved that part.

I didn't want to pass judgement on the film right away, so I have now seen it twice and have decided I still like GOF better.

I don't know that the screenwriting improved as much as it could have, and the movie had no flow what so ever. It was as if they went through the book picked out the scenes they liked and just shoved them on film in some kind of order. There's no explanatory scene between harry's deciding to go to umbridge's fire and neville luna and ginny showing up, no mention really of why they have joined the trio.

The fight was cool, but I thought the fighting smoke was a little bit of a cop out. I liked Sirius Harry and Lucius best cause you could see what they were doing. Then, there was really no grieving of anything, no talk with Dumbledore really, I wasn't as sad when Sirius died as I was when Cedric dies in GOF.

Luna and Umbridge were fantastic though, really well cast and well acted. As in all the films there were of course the wonderful characters/actors that were under used but always fun when they were on screen (Maggie Smith, Emma Thompson, David Thewlis)

Some of my favorite parts were when Harry tells Umbridge in the forest that he must not tell lies, and when Sirius slugged Lucius.

The thing that bothered me most though, beyond the little things that get me because of my love for the book (it's true we fans will never be 100% satisfied) was how they characterized Sirius. Gary Oldman's acting was on for what was written, but it didn't feel that same as the Sirius in the books. He was to comfortable as the father figure I think, not enough of seeing Harry as James I guess.

Enough of my ranting, over all it was fun, I enjoyed it in 3D, and even more so the second time because I was less focused on the fast pace and jumpy scene changes.

When Ron said "seriously, Hermione, you've got to be the most amazing person I've ever met."

YES! Its not like the Dursely's aren't willing to spend hundreds of dollars on air conditioning...
Yeah. That would be funny. I can see it now: Harry gets mad at Vernon and makes him blow up like Marge, but instead of getting bigger and bigger he just...explodes.

There is a part in the Ministry battle where Harry shoots a spell at Lucius and Sirius shouts, "Good one, James!"

Yes there was Lupins, and I loved it! It was as iff at the last minute they were like wait, this is Sirius! I loved that part (alond with punching Lucius in the face) People laughed at that point, I clapped too!

I laughed as soon as Luna looked over he quibbler magazine and wasn't blinking, I just thought she was hysterical right then, and perfect for the part, and I was really loud (good thing the theater was dark because ppl were probably looking at me.

It's true, my sadness related to the movies was opposite to how I felt for the books. I think it was Cedric's dad crying that did it for me in GOF, and I'd say it was the veil that killed it for me in the recent OOTP movie.

I was for sure Amos for me. Being a parent I could feel for him. I could never imagine the loss of a child and he portrayed that feeling. I still tear up watching it again.
