Hey James—

Well, it’s only been a few days since Hogwarts Express rolled into London and I’m already going out of my mind. I swear, one of these days I’ll run away and come live with you! Mother says I’m to stay in London for the summer. She’s still mad about the way we pranked Slytherin last month. I can hardly stand the way Mother keeps going on and on about Regulus. Of course, he’s eating it all up. Ever since he was sorted into Slytherin, he’s been the favorite.

Wish you were here. You could skewer the git with your horns.

Haven’t told my family about being an animagus, and I’m not planning on it. If they can have their secrets, I can have mine.

Haven’t told you about that yet, have I? Something’s up with Regulus. Mother knows, but she won’t tell me. Says a Gryffindor can’t be trusted. I think it’s got something to do with what Dumbledore told us about at the end of the year, you know, about who to trust and who not to trust. Dumbledore’s a sharp one; he’s the only one I know who can condemn Voldemort without saying his name.

Write back soon! Any news on the Lily front? Heh, she’s too good for you, mate! Forget about her and come visit me!

Yours,

Dear Sirius,

Have you heard from James or Peter? I miss you guys. Sorry I didn’t respond sooner, this one was rough.

I read about the Cannons – Arrows match in The Prophet. Would that I could rally some enthusiasm, but reading about a match here isn’t quite as exciting as it is when you guys are around.

We’re out at my Grandparent’s farm for a while. Got here on the 16th. It’s not far from school actually. I can’t do much in the barn, it bothers the horses, but it certainly is nice to help out in the garden. My Gran has taken to fiddling with herbs trying to come up with something that will make me healthier. It’s kind of nice, really. (Though some of the things she concocts taste ghastly!) I guess I do feel a bit better for it.

Being here this year has been more awkward than it normally is. My mother has the picture of Romulus and me when we were kids sitting on the mantle again. It’s almost like she thinks that if she looks at it often enough she can bring him back. So many times I’ve wished we could change places, I know she’d be happier if he was here instead of me…but then, I wouldn’t wish my so called life on anyone. He really was the lucky one. If only… yeah well, “if only” – isn’t that the quandary of the century.

On that cheery note.

Please write back soon.

Your pastoral pal,

RJL

Dear Moony,

How are things there? Are you well? I would have written sooner, but I know that last week was a bad time. I sure wish we could all have been together with you.

Mother is planning a trip to visit family in July. I am trying to convince her that I'd be better off visiting you fellows than going with her. What do you have planned? Do you think I could come visit? Are Prongs or Padfoot visiting you this summer? It would be great if we could all be together again. Perhaps she'll let me stay home myself and you all could come here, but whatever is good for you fellows is good for me.

Your friend,

Sirius,

You must be going crazy over there if you're getting jealous of ickle Regulus. I did hear jealousy in that didn't I? Poor Siri, baby brother's getting all the attention. Don't you wish you had been sorted into Slytherin?

I don't blame you. I would die in that house. All those elf heads... I shudder to think of it. Ugh, and your mom's cooking... Double, Double... Calm down, mate, I was just kidding, you don't have to defend your family's honor. As if you would.

Now about your brother. Skewer the git with my horns? That does sound fun. Git-kabobs. Yum. Gag. But there are other forms of torture. That don't require me to mess up my beautiful antlers.

Something to contemplate. I think I'll go write to The Beautiful Ms. Evans, now. You know she's only said 'no' because she's intimidated by me. Once she gets to see the wonderful, down-to-earth guy that I am...

Help me inspire some confidence here, pal.

Try not to hurt your family 'til I can join in on the fun.

James

Hey James--

Inspire confidence? Looks like I'd better inspire reality instead! Sorry to burst your happy bubble, but she hates you, mate! Maybe if you showed her your nice set of horns...

PS- Me? Jealous of Reg? PLEASE! I oughta bite you for that one...

Hi Remus--

Wish we could have been there for you. You know I was thinking of you. I actually tried to talk my mum into letting me fly out there and visit, but she's forbidden it on the grounds that, as a Gryffindor, I'd fall off my broom from sheer stupidity on a flight longer than a mile.

Sorry about the brother stuff. Its worse for you than it is for me, I know, but at least you've got happy memories with your brother. And hey, you've got three new brothers from Hogwarts! ...I know, not much of a consolation...

Keep in touch! If it gets too terrible, I'm taking my broom and coming up there whether Mother has a fit or not!

Padfoot,

Some friend you are.

Maybe we will have a git-spearing-fest. First your lousy brother, then you. And I'll roast both of you and feed you to Snivellus (the cannibal). HA.

And Lils would think my antlers are to die for. You big ugly brute of a dog.

For the Incomparable Ms. Lily Evans,

It's been years, darling, since I've been in Muggle London. What-say I fly down to your place for the weekend, and you can show me all the sights.

Missing your dazzling face,

James Potter.

The Insufferable James Potter,

How dare you assume that your attentions and letters are wanted or even acceptable. My mother almost had a heart attack when your ruddy owl flew into our kitchen and dropped your inappropriate letter into my father’s porridge. My father of course got to the letter before me and not knowing your provocative language to be a joke was quite upset that I hadn’t brought you over to meet them. Despite many objections and pleas you are every day mentioned in my home now, and I can’t escape the constant teasing of my father. The silence of my sister is welcome for once, and her sneers are almost enjoyable compared to my parents rapture at someday having a full-fledged wizard like you for a son-in-law.

I have assured them that this will not be the case, and should you receive a letter from my parents inviting you to tea, I implore you to reject it. My own entreaties haven’t worked. I beg you to send me no more owls, though I know you will ignore my pleas, and pompously attribute them to my supposed embarrassment at having my emotions discovered.

As for you coming to visit me, that is absolutely out of the question, and were I never to see you again, I think I could die happy. If you so much as attempt to approach our cottage, I will curse you with every curse we learned in DADA last term.

Loathing Your Repulsive Face,
Lily Evans

The Awe-Inspiring Ms. Lily Evans,

This weekend is bad for you? That's alright. I've been dying to meet your parents, too, so I'm glad they want to meet me. Tell your father I'm free for tea on Tuesday around 3:00. I can't possibly wait, my love.

And while I'm there, I will treat you to an evening in Muggle London. What are your feelings on the Muggle 'movies'? I've never seen one. Are they interesting. I should think that sounds like a lovely evening. And then a stroll in the park.

Of course my parents will want to meet you, they've heard loads about you, dear, and my Mum just can't wait to see you in person.

I'd kiss your hand if we were together, now,

James Potter.

Hey Prongs--

I'm afraid you're thinking a bit too highly of your horns. Remember, mate, size matters!

Ah well, if you can't get Lily (which of course you won't be able to) maybe I should try to impress her. I'm awfully good at sniffing out what a woman wants.

Then again, she's a bit of a prude. Bet she gets made prefect.

Best of luck (you'll need it)

Hey Lily-

Just wanted to drop in a word from your favourite guy on campus. How's the summer with Muggles going? Hope you aren't bored stiff.

Listen, I've a feeling James may try to ask you out. Do him a favor and say yes. You know he'll just keep bugging you till you do.

Oh, and that round of missing robes from the girl's dormintory had nothing to do with us, I swear.

Sirius

Since you seem to be the only male Gryffindor in our year that even puts on the guise of having any sense, I will do you the extreme honor of replying to your letter. Summer with the muggles is boring as usual, though I’m not so desperate for wizard company as to take up James’s offer of a visit and an evening in London.

You have a “feeling” James might ask me out? Whatever gave you that idea? Did he tell you himself or did you finally catch on to the fact that he has asked me out every hour of every day since we first met. If it weren’t for the fire places at school I would have so many letters pouring out of my room that Green peace would be after me. As it is, our house in town has no fireplace and I have been forced to hide my letters under a loose floorboard so that neither my parents nor my sister find them and tease me endlessly with his never ending professions of his regard.

As I am sure you want the best for your friend do him a favor and tell him that I would rather belch slugs for an eternity than do so much as touch his hand.

Slimiest Git-iest James,

Oh to be near you right now! To see the way your hair sticks straight into the air as if lightening itself had touched your head. Or to partake in your conversation, that also sounds as if lightening has touched you in the head, (or perhaps that's just natural mental instability). I could go on describing you for hours if I had ever been able to hold in my lunch long enough to stare you in the face. I would fantasize about the sound of your voice, if it weren't for the fact that I can't remember hearing anything but a slight ringing in my ears whenever you approach me.

And who can help going on about your never ending brave deeds and your valour. Like the time you stayed out in the dark forest all night and gave me a bouquet of angry bowtruckles. Ah those hours spent in the hospital wing having my nose refastened to my face were some of the most joyous hours of my life.

If you were ever to stop torturing me with your never-ending devotion, I really don't know how I would spend my life. My hours of dejection would probably be spent being able to be courted by much better looking guys than you, since you wouldn't scare them all away anymore. Then at school I could go entire days without being hit with a curse summoning me to your side. I could live my life without the constant teasing that I get from your stalking. I could live my own life, not having to worry about what you would do when you followed me to places. And the saddest thing of all, is that in the classes where you usually sit in front of me now, I would be able to finally see the board, since your huge pompous head would no longer be blocking my view.

Yours Truly
Lily Evans (and it's going to stay that way)

Sirius,
Thanks for the slug, James would have sent a real one. Perhaps you should give him lessons on how to woo a girl. (He still wouldn't have a chance with me though.) Do whatever you can to keep him from coming to visit me.

Dear Peter,

It’s great to hear from you. I’m spending some time at my grandparent’s farm in the North Country. It is much nicer to be here than to be in the city in the summer.

I haven’t heard from any of the others yet. I imagine they are too busy with quidditch and vacations. Well, maybe only James. (Sir’s probably not having too much fun).

Things here aren’t quite settled as yet, so I can’t invite anyone up. Maybe in a while. As tempting as it sounds, do you think there is any basis in reality of your Mother allowing us to have the house while she’s gone? My mother would never allow it. She doesn’t exactly trust that I can “behave” myself alone.

Sorry about the this taking so long. I took a break from writing yesterday and am just now getting back to it.

I’m sitting under a tree watching a bird circle on the updrafts. You’d like the country. There are lots of interesting plants here. If I stretch my arm out it would bump into this amazing flower on a vine. It kind of looks like a lily only tiny. The centre of the flower is yellow but most of the petals are pinkish and so thin you can almost see right through them. I’ve been spending a lot of time studying the plants here, it keeps me away from the house.

Well better get this sent

All my best,
Remus

Dear Sirius,

Was really good to hear from you.

Don’t do anything to get your Mother angry (angrier?) at you, I’ll be fine. I sure do miss having you guys around though. There isn’t enough trouble in my world without you stirring things up.

I heard from Peter the other day. In fact I had just sent my owl off with a reply to him and was glad your owl could rest here while I wrote, so I could send yours when it returned. He was hinting that we should all get together this summer. He was going to try to talk his mother into having us to his house while she’s off on holiday. Somehow I doubt that will happen, but it made me smile.

What are your plans for the summer? I’m up here for a while, I hope longer. It’s easier than being near Muggles when, well, you know. Been spending a lot of time out in the pastures. There’s a really beautiful little brook. It’s peaceful. Even so, I would like for us all to get together sometime before school.

Hey, just ignore that last letter. I was feeling kind of down, it was nothing and I’m over it.

Write often, it keeps me sane. (Same to you, you bloody git.)

RJL

Padfoot, old pal,

I'll have you know there is nothing wrong with the size of my antlers. In fact I'm quite sure they're bigger than yours. They'll win her over. If my suave chivalry doesn't first.

In the last letter she sent me, yes we have been corresponding regularly this summer through Owl Post, she signed it 'Yours Truly.' Can you believe it? Mine Truly. I like the sound of that. Of course the letter itself was slightly discouraging. You know, she said there are better looking guys than me at Hogwarts. Of course, I know there aren't any. I already hexed all of them.

Prongs (With antlers).

My Water-Lily, Tiger-Lily, Lily-of-the-Valley,

Isn't it amazing how the same poetry that inspires me at just the thought of your face, also fills your heart. This must be love. Although, I will have you know, that, aside from the fact that 'Accio' is a charm, not a curse, you are drawn to my side due to no force but animal magnetism, my love.

Give Petunia and your parents my love.

Forever enraptured by your amazing presence,

James Potter

Not my James,(thank goodness)

As my American pen pal Aerin would say, "Gag me with a spoon!" Animal Magnetism??? So you finally admit that you are an animal. No human being could stalk its prey like you do. Accio may have been learned in Charms class, but whenever you use it to pull something towards you it can only be considered a curse. I really don't know how anyone can stand to be near you for so long. Your ego hasn't been washed in so long that it has grown quite rotten. I suggest a shower.

Forever evasive

Goddess of My Heart, of Love and Beauty, Lily fair,

Of course I am your James. Were you worried that I would deny you my entire being? Because I am yours forever. And Truly. Now about Tuesday. Tell your mother I'm starting to get worried because I haven't heard from her. I'm assuming tea is still a go. Yes?

I'll be missing you until then my Precious Flower. Evasive. I like that. Trying not to seem too eager.

James the Disgusting

My mother would most likely send her apologies if she knew you were expecting an invitation, but since I managed to intercept your invitation, she thinks you're the one being rude by not returning an answer, especially since the date was set for this afternoon and since you missed it, she thinks you are quite a rude young man and entirely undeserving of my affections. I assured her I had none and she now joins me vehemently against you. Sorry, but I really can't risk your behavior around my family, it's bad enough at school. This Tuesday, I am sorry, well not really, I'm happy to report that my family cannot possibly have visitors this upcoming Tuesday. We are scheduled to leave for Holiday on Wednesday, and will be spending the entire day in preparation. I would tell you where I was going, but I'm really not that dim. I wouldn't want you popping up there and ruining the one break I have from you.

Disgustedly,

Lily, who fills the emptiness of my mind and heart,

Do not despair, my love, that we will be separated, and you will not hear from me over your vacation. My owl is extremely smart, and she will find you no matter where you happen to be. I knew that would comfort you, love.

Coincidentally, I, too, will be leaving for vacation this week. Just shows how much we are meant to be with each other. We even plan to leave this city at the same time, so we shall not have to endure the pains and gloom that London is in the absence of each other.

With all my heart, so you can remember me on your trip,

Your James

Bakbam and I are writing this together from now on... she's so much better at characters than I am and I can do the mechanics of it... so if you see a kitty face avatar or a blue Harry contemplating avatar, we're both the same Lupin. 90% of this letter is Bakbam's.

Dear James,

How are your plans with Lily coming along? Please tell me that you took the advice I gave you before the end of school. Tell me that you are being polite, friendly, nice (anything but obnoxious). The only way to get this girl to give you the time of day is to show her the James that we all know. You don't have to show off for her to like you. In fact, I think you'll be better off if you tone it down a bit.

Other than Lily, how are things going?

I am worried that Peter is going to mess up while "practicing" and get hurt, or stuck, or worse yet, get caught. I really wish we could be closer to check on him for a while. Any chance you'll be over his way?

What have you heard from Sirius? I don' t know how long he can stand to be in that house. Would your parents let him stay with you? Mine don't even exactly want me around or I'd ask him to come here. (On second thought, I'm not sure I want that responsibility either come to think of it.)

I had a bit of a time of it that second weekend of this month, and truly miss having your assistance with "my homework".

Write back soon.

Your bucolic buddy,

RJL

Remus,

Sorry it took so long to write back, but you must understand, I've been woo-ing. I have sent no less than 5 letters to Lily in the past few days. All of them have been bursting with all that mushy, chivalry junk girls love. She's not budging. Help.

I hope you're alright. I was worried about you. I'll come up there right now, if you need me. Say the word, Moony, my Mum would understand.

Sirius is worrying me, too. He needs to get out of that place, but his Mum's being a hag again. And his brother thinks he's going to pull some crazy sort of stunt, which no one will tell Sirius about.

I haven't heard from Pete yet. Have you? How is he?

We're going on vacation this week. I just decided today. Now I just have to convince my mother.

With all my sympathy,

James

Remus--

You sound perfectly bored up there in nowhere's land. Don't try to pretend around me; you may say the country is lovely, but you mean that you'd much rather be ripping around Hogsmeade with the rest of us and causing absolute terror. We know you too well, my friend, to believe that you're having a ball in the middle of a field all by your lonesome.

As to making Mother angrier... don't deprive me of the one joy in my otherwise bleak existence in this Slytherin filled house.

Your own bloody git,

PS--Mention James's horns to him, it's hilarious!

Dear Lily--

Believe me, I've tried to give James lessons on wooing. Who would know better than I? Unfortunately, the boy's pig-headed to quite an extreme (as I'm sure you may have noticed).

Speaking of his ability to produce slugs, you should keep in mind his favulous...wandwork...when considering him as boyfriend material. He's nothing to me, of course, but I'm sure he's up to par.

Slugfully yours,

Hey Prongs--

Running a bit late on things today; haven't heard from you lately, but I'm sure that you're wearing your owl out writing to Lily. Did you mention your horns as I suggested? I've heard women can be as wild about a nice rack as we men are...

As for there being more attractive guys at Hogwarts than you, have you forgotten about yours truly (pun, haha)? Surely you've noticed that my good looks outsize your meager horns any day of the week.

And they day you get a hex over on me is the day Peter learns a new spell on the first day WITHOUT Remus or you helping him!

PS--I'm sure your screwing up the romance angle with Lily. What HAVE you been telling that girl?

PPS--If I wind up in Azkaban, you'll know it's because I've placed my brother's head on the wall along with all those nasty house elfs.

Dear Moony,

I'm glad you're enjoying the country. I wish I was there.

I haven't written to Padfoot or Prongs yet, I'm sure they're probably too busy. It might be a good thing, as my mother has no intention of letting me stay home alone this summer. I have to go with her unless I can convince her I'm staying with friends.

I think I will write them. I'm going crazy here by myself. I never did have many friends until I started at Hogwarts, so I'm not exactly popular around here with all the muggle kids (not that I care much, really). I'd just rather be with you guys than anyone else.

I've been wanting to work on my 'homework', as you often call it - but I'm scared the MoM will send an owl to mum and I'd have to tell her and then of course, I'd be expelled for sure. I haven't tried since the train ride home (thanks for not laughing like James & Sirius), and am afraid I'll forget how. Is there some way I can do this without getting caught? I'm not as clever as you guys about this sort of thing, as you know. If you have an advice, it'll be greatly appreciated.

Your friend,

(I didn't like the name at first, but it's growing on me. At least I have one!)

Dear James,

How's your summer going? Seen any good quidditch? Have you managed to make Lily fall madly in love with you yet? Don't worry - she'll come to her senses. What girl could resist?

I was hoping to be able to invite you all out here late next month as my mother is going away. Unfortunately, she's quite firm that I won't be allowed to stay home alone and must go with her to Reading unless I can stay elsewhere with friends. What are your plans? Do you think I could come and visit you? It would be great if we could all be together again during the summer.

Have you tried transforming since the summer started? I want to, but I'm scared I'll get expelled for underage magic. I'm sure you and Padfoot have found some way to get around that though, haven't you? Let me know.

Write soon.
Your friend,

Dear Padfoot,

How's your summer going? That's a stupid question, sorry. I'm sure you're itching to get away from home, right? Well I was hoping to invite you all over next month while my mother goes to Reading, but I must go with her unless I can go stay with friends. I've asked Moony and Prongs if either of them have plans for us all to get together. I'm bored stiff over here by myself.

Have you tried transforming since summer started? I've been practising (wandless, of course), and I think I might have it down. Guess I'll find out when we get back to school - unless you can think of a clever way around the Underage Magic laws.

I hope you're doing all right. It can't be easy - and I'm thinking of you.

Give your family my love. (JUST KIDDING!!!!)

For a certain Black Dog,

Sirius, what have you been saying to Lily? I wrote her ages ago, and she has yet to owl me back. What does she say about me? Anything good? Try to find out where she's going on vacation, would you?

If you do kill your brother, might I suggest something? He'd make a lovely throw rug. And whenever he gets dirty you can take him out and beat him.

And as for hexing you, did you forget about the day you spent speaking in prose? That was my doing, good buddy.

Your antlered pal,

Prongs

PS. Still haven't gotten around to mentioning my lovely rack to Lils, though.

Petey-Pal,

Summer's going great. Except on the Lily front. Her parents now hate me, due to now fault of my own. I'm glad that at least you understand my plight. Thank you for that.

As to everyone getting together, Padfoot is still forbidden to go anywhere this summer, so unless we can find a way around that, our group will be short one fine member, the poor lad. Not that he'd have any misgivings about sneaking out, but I would feel slightly guilty if he got kicked out of his house, and had no place to live because of us. We'll figure something out.

Haven't transformed yet, but I do live in an area where it is uncommon to see deers, so I can't exactly find the moment for it. Padfoot may have. Dogs are quite common. Ask him.

Your pal,

James

Dear Wormy-tail--

(sorry, I still can't get over the name!) Of course, it's wretched here. Let me know the SECOND you guys get plans to meet up. I will find a way to escape this dungeon and be there before you can say chocolate frog.

I've been practicing in my room, wandless. Haven't let the house yet. Regulus almost walked in on me the other night right in the middle of it. We had a terrible row; he was going on about how he was trying to tell me something, but I know he just wanted to see what I was up to.

Hope all's well with you--

PS--Let me know if you decide to try another transformation like the one on the train! I'd risk getting caught by my mother in order to see that again! Heavens, your tail was coming out of your nose!

Dear Horn-meister,

You think I didn't know about that little curse? Did you never wonder who it was that died all your undies bright pink?

As for Lily... I may have mentioned you a time or two, but it seems she's rather have her spleen ripped out through her nose than see you again. Rather distubring image, if you ask me.

Dear Lily,

Haven't heard from you in a few days and thought I'd drop you an owl. Just a warning, James is feeling a bit put out and, well, when James feels put out he tends to over compensate. More than usual, I mean. If I were you, I'd acknowledge his presence with an owl or two before he decides to start sending you flowers hourly or something daft like that. He does seem rather stuck on you.

en route

Sirius,

My family and I are currantly on our way to spend vacation out of the city. Since my muggle parents absolutely refuse to invest in a nice broomstick, saying they wouldn't trust me with a car, much less a broomstick high in the air, we are taking the train there. It's quite a long journey, and I've already written my good friend Alice and every other acquaintance I could think of at Hogwarts worth writing, then I remembered that I owed you a letter.

You should know more than anyone that I would NEVER consider James as boyfriend material. I would consider dating you before I so much as considered asking James to borrow a pencil. Yes, I suppose he is rather stuck on me. I'll be sure to send him an owl so he won't go to extremes and ruin my vacation by attaching himself to his owl and flying out here.

How are the summer holidays treating you?

Boredly,

You,

Sirius told me I should write to you before you popped a gasket and did something way out of line. I'm doing well, and looking forward to the peace and quiet of my holidays (please be kind and don't do anything to mess that up).

Say hi to Remus and Peter for me.

Too tired to think of anything clever,

My Darlingest Lily--

Alas! It was never meant to be! Were that we were both free, free as the wind, to indulge in our secret passions. Unfortunately, I've a feeling that were we to fulfill our fantasies, James would likely either die or kill me (he'd never dream of harming you, of course) or both. On the other hand, it would be nice to see his face turn that lovely shade of purple... ah, no, I must resist, for all our sakes.

Where are you off to for hols? I'm stuck here at home all summer long, punishment for not being a slimy git like my brother. You know Regulus, younger than me, in Slytherin? He's a bit of a moody bloke with a high opinion of his parentage. 'Course, we share the same parentage, but that's not enough for him to deign to speak to me, which, in the long run, is probably for the best, as I don't particuarly have anything I want to speak to him about.

Well, if you must crush all of James's spirits and dash his own soul's heart into the ground like so much chopped slugs, do so gently, my dear.

PS- I think James being rather stuck on you is a bit of an understatement.

Haha, you can't fool me

Sirius, my shining dog star,

You know it would never work between us, though it rips my heart to shreds to dwell upon it. You know your family wouldn't approve of you even befriending a muggle-born, I'm surprised you're daring enough to even write me, then again you always were rather brave, in a reckless, foolish way. You seem like a normal person in your letters, why don't you try getting James to act like that.

I know what you're getting after asking me where I'm vacationing. You'll only tell James and I can't risk that. Suffice it to say that we arrived a couple of hours ago, I unpacked and for the last hour and a half I have been basking in the gentle sounds of nature. I even saw a stag at one point peeking through the trees, they're such lovely creatures.

Sorry about your family. I'd go bloody bonkers if I were forced to stay in one place all summer with people who hate me. I felt so sorry for your owl when he delivered your letter, that I gave him so many owl treats I think he's now more smitten with me than James. He and James will have to fight it out. Though the owl is quite a bit cuter, even though you've run him ragged in the week since holidays started. Take it easy and give your owl a day off. Filch your brother's owl.

I'm off for a bit of sun bathing. You know we red-heads got to keep up on our tans. wink.gif

Lily, the Light-of-my-Life, the Flame to my Candle,

I miss you so desperately. When will you be coming home again my love? Life is bitter and cruel without the thought of your nearness to comfort me. Would that I could touch your face, be comforted by your presence. But, alas, we are too far away.

I am on vacation, now, but it is no more than a bittersweet attempt at keeping some sort of interest to my life while we are separated. I saw a stag today. Beautiful creatures, don't you think?

Missing a piece of my heart,

Sir'

Do me a favor, and ask Lil if she's in Keswick. I think I might have seen her. What an unusual coincidence, don't you think? I'm off to go watch her again. I think she might have seen me before, but I was in my stag form. She did seem quite impressed by my antlers.

I'm in love, do something about it.

Dear Sirius,

I have to do something. If my Mum goes any more into the past I’m going to loose it. My brother’s been dead since the attack ~ it’s been more than eleven years already! I’m still here. Gram and Papa are still here. You’d think it happened last week. This place isn’t healthy for her (and it isn’t healthy for me to be near Muggles all summer).

I heard from Peter, it sounds as though he’s not doing much better than I am ~ and I assume you are. Therefore, I have a proposition for you. Let’s meet somewhere, the 4 of us, for as long as we can reasonably hope to not be found out. If we all work together we could each cover the invitation for the other. We’d have to make certain to intercept any communication between the parents (in your case, maybe you should just show up wherever we decide on and not even attempt the “proper channels” route ~ your Mother will kill you any way we do this anyhow).

Let me know what you think of my “plan”. SOON! It’s only the 26th and I feel like exploding, afraid of what may happen in a couple weeks if, well, just write as soon as you can.

Your country correspondent,

RJL

Dear Peter,

Thanks for writing. I didn't think your Mum would agree to us being at your place while she's on holiday, not too many parents would. Be patient for a few days, there might be some things of interest afoot.
More later.

Hey Prongs--

Where on earth are you? The last letter I sent took my owl much longer than usual to get to you.

Nothing new here, but I won't be able to write as often. Dratted brother keeps borrowing my owl. At least I've been informed that they're going to Bath and I don't have to go! Whee! Just me and that lousy house elf who will, no doubt, not leave me alone for a second.

Hey Moony--

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you! My darn brother's been using my owl. Last time it came back greasy; think he's been writing dear old Snivellus.

Plan sounds great! My family's leaving for Bath on the 2nd, maybe we could meet here. We'd have to get around the house elf, tho...

Padfoot,

Your family's going to Bath? That means you can get out of there, right? Come visit me. When are they leaving? Maybe I'll come there. We'll see. Last I heard from Moony and Wormtail, they wanted all of us to get together somewhere. This could work out after all.

Hope you can stand it with your family in the house until they leave. Don't do anything crazy yet.

Have you heard from Lily lately? She hasn't written to me in quite some time. And I thought she was impressed by my antlers.

Thoroughly bored on the countryside alone,

Here

James,

I figured that you would be curious, not having heard from me in a bit, so in order to hold you back from chasing after me, I will assuage your curiosity with a play by play of todays events so that you can feel as if you're here stalking me.

This morning I woke up bright and early, I sat outside and watched the sun rise. It was beautiful peaking up behind a grouping of trees that is next to where we're staying. Then as I was going inside I was approached by a stag, one that has been following me quite a bit, so I gave him a pat, surprised at how tame he was. Have you ever patted a stag? I always thought they would gore people with their horns.

This afternoon, I went on a nature hike with my family, it was incredibly dull except that the stag appeared again. It's almost like you're here stalking me except in a much prettier form. We were sitting down to a nice picnic, when the stag approached my family. It was hysterical. Petunia tried to feed him one of her crisps and he almost ate her hand. It was as if he had never been offered food by a human before. Then again it could just be because my sister is so incredibly boney that her fingers looked like french fries. She's such a ghastly creature, sometimes I wonder at her. Oh well, family is family, and we can't all be blessed with good ones. I'll just be happy I don't have it as bad as Sirius.

I'm off to a bit of a barbecue with the other families here. Sorry, this letter wasn't as snippy as the ones you're used to getting, be assured that all the same loathing still remains in my heart, it's just that the beauty of my surroundings has dulled the sharp edges of my outward disgust.

Dear Prongs--

Oh dear, you're stalking Lily, aren't you? I can't believe you're actually STALKING LILY. I'm sure there's some sort of law about stopping people like you from doing stupid things like that. I've half a mind to warn her about it.

What are plans for a visit? My family's leaving tomorrow, so let me know as soon as you hear something! Of course, who knows how long their trip will actually last... probably quite a bit as they're planning on visiting the Lestranges.

Let me know as soon as you hear anything. And for Merlin's sake, don't get yourself arrested, or worse, caught. And try to refrain from showing off your horns too much.

PS- Would have written sooner but my slimy git of a brother stole my owl! Can't wait to see him when he finds out what I did to his socks.

Darlingest Lils, Who loves me more than she loves James,

So dreadfully sorry it took me so long to get in touch with you. Regulus filched my owl a few days ago and neglected to tell me that he'd brought me a letter; I've only just now located it.

So you won't tell me where you're hiding? How distrustful of you! As if I'd tell James anything that would get in the way of our newfound love.

But yeah, you're right, I would have told him. Haha!

So, you saw a beautiful stag out there in the country wherever you may be? I'd better warn you, I've heard they're terribly dangerous with their horns. Though, of course, I doubt you've seen any with large horns out there, wherever you are. Just a guess.

Ah well. Nothing new here, except I may get a break from the SLytherin part of my family (I.e. ALL of them) tomorrow for a few days.

Shoot--just realized that I wrote James and forgot to tell him that you love me more. I'll be sure to do that next letter.

Your one true love,

PS- The owl's name is Merwyn and seems bloody attached to you. Don't spoil him or he'll expect treats constantly!

Padfoot,

I'm not stalking Lily, I just feel the need to see her sometimes without being subject to hatred. It's pretty wearing to have to deal with that from someone you love so much. As a stag at least she isn't antagonized by my mere presence.

Sorry for getting so serious, but being out here in the midst of nature has made me contemplative. I miss you, life's no fun without my partner in crime. What time can I be there tomorrow? Sadly being so near Lily is becoming depressing, I need you to cheer me up, and I'm sure you need someone for that same reason, too. Not that I won't come straight back here afterwards, but I need a break from it.

I'll be there. And I'm seriously considering, in my highly contemplative state, spearing you with my antlers.

Not with you, what else matters?

Lily,

I'm not surprised at how tame that stag was. A stag will spear you with his antlers (sorry, a bit of a pet peeve I have) if he feels you are a danger to his family. The one you described is apparantly alone, without a family. I feel sorry for him, it's in their nature to protect. Maybe he thinks he can protect you.

I'm thankful for your latest letter, it was by far the nicest you've been to me, and I appreciate it more than you know. I also, have not been myself of late, and do not have it in my heart, right now, to antagonize you. Don't be too worried, though, if you would worry, I'm sure by tomorrow I'll be back to my normal and annoying self, and you can go back to hating me. It's gotten to be sort of routine for me.

Contemplative,

Dear Sir',

Not to be problematic about things, but...

Your place is so cheery we might not be able to stand it. Know any good hexes to contain that gremlin of a houseelf?

Not sure Grimmauld is the best route to go... a bit dangerous, mate. Besides I'm fancying the North Sea myself. How about if we all meet somewhere up there and walk the shores? We could rent a skiff, have some fun. Less chance of getting caught up there....

Speaking of which... You have been destroying all these so that spying servant of your Mum's doesn't know what we're up to, right? I don't trust any charm we know against that relic.

Soon, K?

Your country crony,

RJL

Moony,
Padfoot's family is going to Bath. He suggested we meet at his place, but I don't know if that's a good idea. I really don't like that house elf of theirs - he gives me the creeps. You always have the best ideas - can we sneak him out, do you think? I have to know soon so that I can get out of the trip to Reading. Mother's bumped it up now and is planning on leaving on the 3rd. I need something to tell her soon.

Your friend,

Prongs,
Sirius's family is going away without him. He suggested we meet at his place but I don't really want to be around that creepy elf of theirs. I have to tell mum something soon or I'll have to go to Reading on the 3rd. Say the word and I can floo over to Godric's Hollow.

Wormtail,

I'd say you could come to Godric's Hollow, but I'm not there now. And I think I'll be going from here to Padfoot's place tomorrow. You could come there, I'm sure, we'll have figured something to do with the lousy runt, Kreacher, by the time you get there. I hope. Tell your mum that's where you'll be. But I wouldn't mention that his parents are going to be in Bath.

Moony, my friend,

Of course I destroy all our correspondence. ESPECIALLY after something rather disturbing happened the other night. I was walking down the hall to the kitchen and passed Reg in the library. He had out every book in the house about werewolves. He didn't notice me, which is good, because that quite shook me up. Why on earth is he researching werewolves?

Of course this would happen the night before he is to leave to Bath. Perhaps its for the best. Perhaps this was just a passing whim. He likes all those dark things; last year he was practically in love with vampires.

You're right; it's for the best that I get out of here anyway. I THINK the Brat has left me enough Floo powder to get around; either way, I've got my broom. Just tell me when and where and I'm there, mate!

My Own Horny Friend,

How's life for the criminally insane? Still having fun stalking our dearest Lils?

Give up your sadistic tendencies for a bit (it's obviously not been good for you; you were actually serious in your last letter. quite disturbing, really). Moony's proposed a well deserved break for us all. Come on down to my place--the family's leaving early tomorrow--and we'll set off. I've at least five days of freedom!

By the by... what would you make of Reg researching werewolves?

On a much different note, did I mention Lily said she loves me more than you?

Padfoot,

Apparently Prongs isn't at home - so I can't go visit him there. He told me he's going to see you tomorrow and that I should tell my mum that I'll be staying there with you while she's in Reading, and to floo over to your house. Is Moony coming too? Can I come? I'll be waiting for your word - just floo me when Prongs gets there and that creepy elf of yours isn't.

Leaving Keswick

Padfoot,

Your brother is suddenly interested in werewolves? And your family, the family full of dark wizards, is keeping some huge secret from you. This is disastrous. Moony is in huge danger! I'm leaving now, via broomstick. This is horrible! I'll be there tomorrow morning. Owl me the second your parents leave, I'll be in the area.

This situation seems highly suspicious, but maybe I'm just reading too much into it. Hoping for the best,

PS. Of course Lily loves you more. She hates me, remember. But she loves my antlers.

Here

James,

Wow, I must admit that your last letter shocked me. I could find no traces of the James I know in it whatsoever. What inspired this transformation? I had formerly thought of your entire character as a two-dimensional thing, and now I see some depth. Don’t take this to mean more than it does, James, but congratulations, on making me not hate you for a few minutes.

I had no idea you were interested in Nature. I never really pictured you as the outdoors woodsman type of guy, not that I’ve really thought about it. I listened to what you said about the stag being lonely. So last time he approached me, I gave him a bit of a kiss on the nose, thanking him for his protection. I think I scared him off though, because the moment I did that the stag jumped in the air and ran off. I haven’t seen it since. I know I haven’t had much practice with kissing, thanks to you scaring away the opportunities, but I didn’t think a stag would notice! Oh well. Hey, why am I telling you this.

Anyway, thanks for being so contemplative, it was a nice change, but I suppose in a few days you’ll be back to your normal self again. Oh well. Until then.

Best Regards,

Wormytail--

Why ask? Just drop by whenever you want. Everyone should be leaving around midday. I'm sending Kreacher off soon after, so show up about 1 or so. Prongs should be dropping by (he's got a bit of a flight) then we can all leave together.

Leaving

My dear Lily,

Were you really that shocked that I'm not what you have always pictured me to be? Perhaps has something to do with the fact that you don't know me at all. Still contemplative today. But not to worry, I'm en route to Sirius's house, and he should help me to get back to being my normal self.

And I happen to love nature. Well, not most nature, but I do like the woods, and stags are a favorite creature of mine.

There seems to be a lot you don't know about me. But for now, I will offer a half-hearted attempt at my usual egotistical, annoying self, you do seem to bring out the worst in me... No, I think I've lost my touch. Tell your mum I'm sorry for missing tea, at least, while your not hating me. Thank you.

As to the stag, he probably had to move on, let go of an old life. That, too, can happen.

Not sure what's wrong with me,

Dear Padfoot,

When one has certain tendencies that aren’t appreciated by the general public, one tends to be a little wary of occurrences that draw attention to those tendencies. Why in the world was your brother doing research on that subject?! I don’t like it. I have to say up front that it makes me nervous to even think about what might come of it.

Suddenly I don’t trust coming anywhere near your ancient and noble House. I wouldn’t want to tell Gram and Papa I was coming to your place anyhow, even if your family isn’t there I could see the message being intercepted too easily. Probably it is best to say I’m going to Wormtail’s. I doubt his Mum would deal with owl post, so it seems safest. Any news of him or Prongs?

Can you think of anywhere we could meet? The only place I can think of as entirely safe is the Shack, but it is so far north for all of you. Got any suggestions?

Your bucolic buddy,

Moony

Boredom

Sirius, my heart's desire,

Wow, I've been here a whopping two days and I have completely run out of things to do. I've had to resort to writing everyone I know. Do you happen to know where Peter and Remus are? I even wrote to Alice's boyfriend Frank earlier. Petunia's beau turned up earlier this morning, and while I appreciate that she's not bothering me, I must admit, I find it rather distasteful that she refuses to bring Vernon anywhere near me. It's not like I'm going to curse him or anything.

There are no other witches or Wizards here. Although I'm sure there was one here yesterday, I'm sure I saw an owl flying around the other day delivering mail to someone other than me. I feel as though all of my magic is going to drain out of me. Mother and Father absolutely forbid me to bring my books with me. How in the world am I supposed to study! I will be so behind! They say they don't want to risk anyone seeing them. They care more about keeping wizardry secret than I do. They are very supportive of me though, it makes up for the horrid way my sister treats me, though I am perfectly aware that I should be grateful for my family when I look at yours. I hope you are enjoying your break from them. James said he was going to visit you, so try to cheer him up, he seems a bit down, or as he described it, contemplative, it must be a sight to see, he's never thought much in my presence, I'm sure of that.

Don't tell James this, but I was actually quite impressed with his last letter, he seemed like a normal guy, maybe if he acted like that when he was around me, we could be friends (nothing more!). By the way, what was his reaction when you told him I loved you more. Does he know of our affair? Only joking.

Merwyn and I have become quite close, he let me stroke his feathers, they are quite soft, you must use owl moisturizing spray, I saw it at Diagon Alley last year when I went to pick up my books and I got my own owl. Her name is Auroleus, I'm sorry, but she's not too fond of you, though I'm sure James spoils her, because every time I tell her to go find James, she throws herself out of the window, almost before I have a chance to tie the letter to her foot.

Have fun with your friends, remember me amongst the muggles, as you find ways around the underage magic rules.

Sighs and tears,

Moony--

I understand completely, on all accounts. Wink, wink, nudge nudge, say no more.

Our Lovely House may be a good place to meet, but you're right about the distance. I've got a healthy supply of Floo Powder squirrelled away if we need to use it. When I saw Reg using mine, I starting to hide my own private stash.

There's always Diagon Alley, though. I've been dying to go down Knockturn for ages...

'Course, we could all take a quick trip to Keswick. I believe Prongs would like that suggestion.

See you soon!

Darlingest Lils,

You mean you wouldn't curse that Vernon fellow? I would at my first chance. From the muggle piktour thing you showed me, the nonmoving thing on shiney paper, he looked absolutely horrid. Your sister, too. I'm terribly glad that it's the pretty sister that's in love with me.

I'm seeing James later today; I'll be sure to knock him about the head and tell him to quit it with that thinking thing. Nasty habit, thinking. It doesn't suit him at all.

As to your being bored... you know, that no magic for underage wizards thing is a bit more of a guideline than an actual rule. They only ever watch you if you're the child of someone important or have a bad record or something. As long as you're not in front of muggles and around other wizards, you're pretty safe. 'Course, you're not around other wizards now, so that's shot. There must be something that muggles do for entertainment... if you're terribly bored, I can always ditch James and come up and see you and we can fulfill our own secret desires and all that. I suppose I could take time out of my busy schedule for it.

Anyway, gotta run. Oh, and whatever you're doing to Merwyn... for the love of Merlin, woman, stop it! He came flying in all excited and started nipping at me--NIPPING AT ME--as if he expected treats for doing his job, the same job he's done all his life without getting treats. I'm going to see how far I can throw him out the window when I'm done with this letter.

Padfoot,

Keswick? Not the first place that would occur to me. Where does this idea come from? It could easily be done, though.

On the other hand, Diagon Alley has distinct possibilities.

Whatever works for all of you is fine. Let me know, and let's do it.

Here, There, Anywhere

James,

Have you morphed back into your old self yet? Will your next letter push me back into the pits of disgust? If so then this will be my final nice letter to you. I would say it was my final letter period, but I believe you’ve done something to my owl, and I’m afraid that if I stopped sending you letters she would run off and find you, leaving me with no connection to the wizarding world whatsoever. Plus, I’m bored and writing to you is better than nothing.

I need something to do. I’m not as good as getting into mischief as you are, and after taunting Petunia about her boyfriend, there’s nothing else I can think of to amuse myself and annoy her. Any suggestions?

Hope you’re having fun with Sirius, give him my love.

In a Tree

Sirius,

I’d be angry if I weren’t so in love with you. Well, I guess it’s my own fault for listening to someone who has three drawers in the caretaker’s office, dedicated to their permanent record, but I’m going to blame you anyway. I took a hike by myself, wandering around in the woods, looking for more friendly creatures, since the stag seems to have abandoned me. I went really far and soon it got quite dark. I’m not much of a woods person, so naturally I was a bit lost. I turned in the direction that I thought was home, and wandered about for above an hour. Still lost, and no stag to protect me. I then remembered what you had said about underage magic laws being more of a guideline than an actual rule, so I whipped out my wand, and did the four point spell. Apparently, they do care, even though I am of no consequence in the wizarding world. A member of the magic reversal squad showed up the instant I said the spell and wrestled me to the ground! It was rather unpleasant. When he realized I was just a teenage girl lost in the woods, he flew me back to our cabin, but not before an hour long lecture on how wrong it was of me to attempt such dangerous magic in an area crawling with muggles. Honestly, we were four kilometers, at least, from the nearest muggle! Luckily I have been let off with a warning. Hopefully that will serve as a warning to you as well, since you probably have many more ministry eyes on you and your family than I do.

And just to spite you I gave Merwyn three owl treats and promised him three more when he delivered this letter back to you. Ha ha, that’s what you get for your advice. I think I’ll just stick to stalking Petunia and Vernon and throwing nuts at them. They think that the entire squirrel population of these woods is after them. Vernon is quite a ghastly creature, he has no neck that I have ever been able to see, and he is in the process of attempting to grow a bit of a moustache. Right now it looks like he has cruciatus candy crystals stuck on his upper lip. It’s positively horrid.

If you’re really that bored you may come visit me. I’m in Keswick currently and quite lonely, except when Merwyn does me the honor of a visit. I wouldn’t want you to have to leave James, Remus and Peter, though if you are spending your family-free time with them. It’s probably the only chance you’ll get to see them all summer, and I wouldn’t want to deprive you of that, even though you’ll probably turn James back into the obnoxious flirt he is at school.

Destitute without you,

Moony--

Well Prongs and Wormytail are at my place now. Why don't we pop into Diagon Alley (we could use more Supplies anyway; I'm short of dung-bombs) and carouse around there a bit, then decide together what else to do.

As for Keswick-- where have you been? Prongs has been up there stalking Lily for days now. She's officially invited us to come up (me, anyway, but I'd bring the three of you of course) so we may as well come and see how uncomfortable we can make her in front of her parents...

Wonderful, beautiful, entrancing Lily,

I'm with Sirius, now. Helps my ego, don't you think? Peter is here, too. He says 'Hi.' Ok, not really, but I wanted you to feel like some of us over here care about you, in your poor lonely state.

BUT, have no fear, because, we, Sirius, Peter, and I, have formulated a plan to save you from your intense boredom. What more could you want then to spend a few days with the four best-looking, sought-after, and not to mention incredibly fun, guys at Hogwarts? That's right, Lily Evans, we're coming to see you. That is as soon as Remus gets his arse down here, we're going to Diagon Alley, then headed straight up to Keswick. Of course you knew Sirius would tell me that, didn't you?

Counting the minutes until I can see your face,

PS The trip was Siri's idea, blame him, don't go back to hating me now!

Padfoot ~

Did you get home ok? Will they ever allow you out of your room again? If I don't hear from you via return owl, I'm getting the rest together and we'll come rescue you!

Wish we hadn't gotten split up... Do you have any idea what happened to the others?

How in Merlin's Beard did all that occur?

Still Shaking,

Moony--

ARGH! I can't believe that all happened! That is officially the closest call of all the close calls we've ever had combined.

Haven't heard from the others; glad to know you're safely away. Not too worried about James; he can take care of himself. I'll see if I can get in touch with WT soon.

Course, they found me. How could they have missed me, with me standing right in their path and all? Confined to my rooms for the rest of the summer. Mother had a fit, which did her well, I'm sure.

Telling Merwyn to deliver this to you first, then drop off the other notes to P and WT.

STAY HIDDEN,

Sirius,

You're truly coming to visit me? Well, I suppose if you must bring the whole crew there's nothing I can do to stop you. It will be a nice break in the boredom, and mum will be positively delighted to meet you all, should I choose to introduce you.

I must warn you though, I had a bit of a run in with a flower I was trying to pick for Alice, and I've got a rash all up and down my arm. So you'll have to excuse me if my arm has fallen off and I'm unable to do much. I've written to Alice inquiring after what I should do, and I've yet to receive an answer.

Lily

P.S. I hope it's not contagious

Padfoot,

Relax, I'm okay now. I TOLD YOU THAT WAS A BAD IDEA! I'm really lucky that the dungbomb didn’t go off before I slipped it into Snivellus' bag. It would have blown my head off! Those things are hard to carry when one is a rat, you know. I thought I was dead when Snivellus caught me. The only upside was that I was so scared I think I whizzed on his robes when he had me hanging upside down like that, with his wand in my mouth. (I'd be embarrassed, but in hindsight, that was really funny part about the whole thing.) Thanks for stepping in. (Couldn't you have been more careful with the "accio rat"?) The owl you got from the Ministry came too quickly for my liking (and I didn't like the look he was giving me, either). It wouldn't have been too bad really if Kreacher hadn't shown up and taken me and your letter. Let me just say that travelling with a house elf is worse than a portkey, any day. He took me to your mom at The Lestrange's and I managed to slip away and hide. After a while of hiding in the parlour, I took a chance when no one was in the room and transformed then floo'd home. Your mom said something about apparating to Diagon Alley to find you. I take it she did? Sorry you got caught, Sir. I'm sure your mom was thrilled to get a reason to make your summer worse. What happened to J & R? They ran off in different directions when the dungbomb went off, but I was too busy trying not to get killed to see where they went. Nevermind, I'm writing to them next.

Your friend,

P.S. Thanks for helping my with my "homework" at your place. I've not had any trouble since, and I don't even think of my wand anymore.

P.P.S. What's with Merwyn? He's trying to rummage through my pockets! (I think he wants a snack or something) Don't you ever feed him?

Prongs & Moony,

First - I'm okay. What happened to you guys? Did you see what happened? If not, here's the story:
I managed to get the dungbomb into Sniv's bag before it went off, but once it did, he caught me and nearly hexed my head off. (I thought I was dead for sure, but I got him back though - I whizzed on his robes!) Sir showed up and got me away from Sniv with a fierce "Accio", and he got an owl right there on the spot from the Ministry. KREACHER showed up, took me and the letter to Sir's mom over in Bath, where I managed to get away, transform and floo home. I think she apparated to Diagon Alley and caught Sir, but I don't know for sure. I just wanted to let you know that I'm okay, and to make sure you guys didn't get into any trouble. What happened to you? I didn't see you once the bomb went off.

I am never going to let you guys talk me into trying this again any time soon.

Write soon.
Your Friend,

P.S. Prongs - if Moony isn't there with you, tell Jude to take this to him next.

Still alone in bloody Keswick

Sirius,

No note, nothing, you don't bother to show up at all and don't even bother to send a note of excuse or apology?? What was I thinking, for just a second there I was starting to change my opinions of you and James, but now I know you're just as pigheaded as ever. Too caught up in your own little intrigues to spare a thought for me. Did it ever occur to you that I was sitting here for three days waiting for a letter or your arrival, I didn't go on the overnight hike my parents took because you said you would be coming. I stayed in that stupid cabin for three bloody days twiddling my thumbs and slowly watching a blue tint creeping up my arm. Luckily I have one correspondent who still cares about me and I've rectified that little problem. No thanks to you.

Don't even bother trying to fix this, if you were to show up now I would rub a hundful of sassifrasiphonius in your filthy face. I'm so furious that even my hair looks like it's more on fire than normal!

Très faché!!!

Moony--

When you get this, pass the word to Prongs and Wormtail that we're telling Lily that you ate a funny whelk at the Leaky Cauldron and that's why we never made it up there to see her. She's surprisingly angry; maybe she does like ol' Prongs after all.

I know it's dangerous, but we should consider meeting again (tho I'm not sure how I'm going to break out of prison this time...). I don't like how things turned out in Diagon Alley. The more I think about it, the more I wonder just exactly why Snivellus happened to be right there just after the transformations. Seems a bit convenient for him, don't you think? At least he didn't see us actually do anything...I think. I just hope he didn't hear that conversation we were having right before then. And then there's my brother and his little extra credit project with that uncomfortable topic. Not to mention the way Kreacher was acting. As if he'd had orders, if you catch my drift.

Long and short of it, I think that was more than just a return prank from Sniv or my brother. I'm going to confront him soon. At least your Time isn't for awhile. Still, it does seem a bit too fortuitous...

Good to see you made it alright. I was a bit worried about you, mate. I'm terribly glad you left that present for Snivellus. No wonder we keep you around! Just kidding, of course.

I'm sure Prongs made it out ok. Course, now he has to face Lily's wrath, which is considerably more dangerous than anything we did, haha.

I got an official warning from the MoM, of course, but I don't think they've got anything on the three of you.

Dear Padfoot,

A WHELK!??! Gak! No wonder I got sick...yuck! Will pass the info on to our pals as this comes to you.

Speaking of which, is it wise to continue Owl post? I’m not too concerned about the others’ being intercepted…

Diagon Alley was fun! Best time I’ve had all summer. [I could have spent a bit less time staring at the new brooms at QQS, though…]. ‘Hadn’t ever stayed at the Cauldron before. I thought Tom was going to die when you and Prongs showed him Wormtail and acted offended that the place had vermin. I hope we can show our faces there again some time.

I’m still contemplating the last bit we were in the Alley. You're right, it does seem a little too convenient what with all that happened. I, of course, am most concerned about the extracurricular study program of your family member, but why WAS Snivilus where and when he was?

Hey, did our purchases make it through the chaos? I think Prongs had the bag when I last knew. Those potion ingredients would be an amazing asset next term ~ sure hope they didn't get lost in the scuffle. Merlin's Beard Nocturn Alley is a scarey place... and you've actually done that many times? Eekkk! I wish I had the potions book we got with me; would love to get a head start on some of them. Well, at least I have the Advanced Defense Against the Dark Arts text.

Agree on meeting again. Where and when? And how do we get you "out"?

Moony

Dear Wormtail,

Padfoot was saying we need to have our stories straight to cover Prongs with the flower girl. SO, the party line is: We couldn't meet with her because I got sick after eating some tainted whelk. Don't embelish, we'll let Prongs and Padfoot deal with all that.

I'm still laughing over your prank with old Sniv. Since I had to make a hasty departure, thanks for sharing the grande finale! I thought I'd burst out cackling when you jumped on old Snively's robes to get to his bag. You didn't catch anything from him did you? Should I send a fumigation charm?

Did you keep track of our "goodie" bag? I only have one of the books (the one I was reading when we rounded the corner and almost bumped into our old friend.)

We need a repeat performance. Let's work on it.

Your partner in crime,

Moony

Dear Prongs,

Padfoot said we need to support your trying to cover your rump with the flower girl... So, Wormy and I will say I got ill after eating bad whelk. That's as far as I'll go with it, I think she's a nice person and don't really like making up stories to tell her.

Do you still have the bag of stuff we bought? I sort of lost track when things got active. How'd you do? Unless old Snivley recognized me, I got away unscathed.

Padfoot also suggested another adventure soon. I concur!

Moony,

I never did have the bag of stuff we bought - couldn't very well heft that around while I was Wormtail, could I? Besides, we wouldn't want Sniv to have had a chance to see some of that stuff, if you know what I mean. I think Prongs must still have it. I hope so, anyway. As for a repeat performance, I'm all for hooking up again, but this time let's keep a low profile. I don't want another moment that close to Sniv, and if I never have to travel with that house elf again in a million years, it'll still be too soon. My mum is still in Reading until the 10th, and she still thinks I'm at Padfoot's place, so I'm free.

I didn't want to worry P & P too much, but I overheard something in Bath that I think you should be aware of. Padfoot's brother's interest in you-know-what has something to do with Voldemort's lot. I didn't hear enough to know exactly what he's up to, but his cousin B showed up, acting like she knew all about it and the two of them went off together to discuss "his mission". What do you think it means?

As for covering for Prongs, I got it. I hope she doesn't know you well enough to know you'd never eat whelk.

Write soon.
Your friend,

P.S. I don't need the fumigation charm, thanks. I think the 3 baths did the trick.

Moony--

By the way, wanted to let you know that I was able to salvage about half our "goods." The smaller items anyway; I stuffed them in my robe pockets during the chaos after the MoM representative showed up to yell at me for doing magic. The other things were in the brown paper bag; I hope Prongs got them because Wormy certainly wouldn't have been able to carry them.

Haven't heard from Prongs, but not worried about.

Also, I sent a note to my brother confronting him about everything. I hope that we're just blowing everything out of proportion and nothing serious really is up.

Padfoot,

Just received an owl from Wormy.. he shared some disturbing things he over heard while being held captive by your delightful folks. Did he share same with you? We need to meet soon and compare notes, it doesn't sound good.

Glad the stuff didn't get "lost". I really want to study those potions. I think it would help our cause immensely.

Soon,

Moony

Dear Wormtail,

Thanks for the update. I knew you didn't have the bag, just thought you might have an idea where it got to. Once I ducked through Flourish and Blotts, I lost track of everything going on where the rest of you were. I was afraid to pretend to be part of the crowd, thought I might blow someone's cover or be recognized.

'Would love it if we could all be together this weekend. It would be so much nicer with all of you around. I think you need to tell Padfoot, at least, what you overheard in Bath. 'Got no idea how we can get him out of "house arrest"... Maybe we should owl him some floo powder.

If you can figure a way to get together at the Shack, I think it may be our best bet. I think Prongs has to be at that wedding with his parents, but our other buddy is the one that needs brought up to speed anyway.

Let me know,

Moony

Dear Moony,

I'm good for this weekend as long as I'm out of here before my mum gets home from Reading. Padfoot has no shortage of floo powder, we picked some up for him and even if Prongs has it, there's still his private stash. I suspect we just have to find a way to slip him past the family and the elf. Maybe Prongs could owl his cloak over and Padfoot could sneak out and fly, or floo from elsewhere. I don't know - you're the one who always has the best plans. It was just a thought.

Write soon.
Your friend,

P.S. 4 days left - are you feeling well enough to travel?

Wormtail,

Things will be fine for now, a couple more days might be problematic.
Come when you can, I'll be there within the next few hours.

Hey, Big Dog,

I'm not going through the weekend here. Will be at the Shack in next few hours, for the duration. If you can do it, it would be appreciated.
(That's funny, you don't look floo-ish.)
