I have been staring at this section of the forum for a while, wondering when we'd be able to get a proper Order of the Ferret started. Then, around 3am, I jumped out of bed with this idea that--in my humble opinion--rocks wink.gif [You know you're a HPaholic when you jump out of bed at 3am with fanfic ideas]

Your mission, if you choose to accept it...

1) Pick a character, any character (but not Harry or a character someone else signed up for)
2) Retell key points from the first HP book from the perspective of that character

To keep this in guidelines with the "order" rules (as opposed to first come, first serve in Ferret Wheel), we can all each sign up for a character and stick with that character for each scene. For example, I'm going to sign up for Ron, and for each of the scenes in this series, I will write from Ron's point of view. If you'd like to do more than one, that's cool.

I suggest that we do three scenes, one per week, at least to start.

*Tentative schedule: Sign-ups till this Saturday, then one story per week by each following Saturday. Good?

I think any length or format would be fine.

It may help people decide what three scenes we should do, so here's what I'm thinking. Again, I'm flexible on this.

1) The first day (Hogwarts Express, sorting)
2) Halloween (remember the troll?)
3) Sometime during the trio's forray into the bowels of Hogwarts (depending on character, this could change. I.e. Ron would start from his adventure, but if someone picks Draco, this could be told as an aftermath tale)

I'll edit this post as people sign up so that this will be the official list of who's who.

List of Characters
Moony will write for Ron
Pinkpanther will write for the troll and/or Hermione
Ron's My Man will write for Quirrel
Quant will write for Crabbe/Goyle and Draco on a modified schedule
Bakbam will write for Professor Snape and Neville
SiriuslyIrish will write for Dumbledore
Zymurgy will write for Hedwig (tentative)
McGonagal's Cat will write for Hagrid, the big oaf tongue.gif

Yay! OK, post below who you'd like to sign up for!

If we do Halloween, can I be the troll? biggrin.gif
If not, I would be content to settle for Hermione, I suppose.

Oooh Oooh Ooh, ((waves hand wildly in the air)) Cna I be professor Quirrell??? It would be fun to write from his perspective, I can be evil, after all I am the Plague dragon. Or if we want to keep it to good characters I'll do Dumbledore.

Yay! I was REALLY hoping that someone would do Quirrel... that would be awesome!

I hadn't thought of the troll... but I guess you could totally do it. The first one could be how Quirrel got it, then Halloween, then the bonking of the last troll during the adventure...? Or you could do a "special" for the Halloween on and leave off the others. I'll put you down for both, just in case :-)

I'm so glad people are joining!

Bakbam-- Quantamus pm'd me just forty minutes before your post asking that I reserve Snape for her. sad.gif Would you mind terribly picking another character? Sorry!

To avoid confusion in the future, everyone post here which character you'd like to be instead of pm-ing; that way people will know who's doing what. smile.gif

I'm a little slow on the uptake huh.gif , so I need some things clarified, what I understand of this fanfic sounds fun, but I don't get how it's all coming together, are we all writing the scene from different characters perspectives and putting it all together into one big compilation? That's what we're doing right? I just don't want to do anything wrong, I can't stand people yelling at me, I don't want to screw anything up. blink.gif

*yells* I WOULD NEVER YELL AT YOU!!!! wink.gif

Haha, just kidding. No worries, RMM, I've gotten a lot of pm'd questions about it. Evlpez came up with a great idea that I am going to blatently steal. I'm going to make a board for each week. Then each of you will write one story per week for your selected character.

So...

Week One, everyone writes one story from their character's perspective about the first day of Hogwarts (roughly from the train to the sorting) This will go in Week One forum. Now, since we're all coming at this out of the blue, these stories are all going to be completely independent. If there's a situation in the book where the characters meet, such as Ron, Hermione, and Harry on the train, then it should follow the book, but since most of these are characters without such explicit meetings, it's pretty free.

For Week Two, you continue on with your character. However, since you now have perspectives from Week One, you may want to refer to these past events. I.e. if Bakbam mentions in Week One that Snape has assigned a major project for all the Slytherins, then Quant may consider mentioning it (whether it got done or not, the results) in her week two from Crabbe/Goyle's perspective. Not mandatory, but it would make the stories kind of mesh together and intermingle, ne?

Then Week Three is the wrap up, same format as before.

Does that make sense? Basically three stories with a consistent character but that can mingle with elements from the other stories.

Let me know if I should clarify more! Sometimes things make such perfect sense in my head, but I just can't seem to make them clear! rferret.gif

clear as scratched glass. I think I get the general idea, I see the end, but I'm still a bit confused, I'm not even sure what I'm confused about. Oh well, it's my normal demeanor, I'll just go cower from the wrath of Moony now.

Sorry Quantamus I didn't know. I think Dumbledore would be an interesting character to write as well.

I am excited about this project. I am interested to see where this goes.

To clear up confusion... I originally meant only ONE story per week, for a total of three stories after three weeks. NOT three stories per week... dear heavens, I could never do that much!

Clearly, I was never meant to be the person who writes instructions laugh.gif

Whee my evil wrath strikes again!

Bakbam: I think it would work in either; I'm going to write it as JK writes in her books, using imperfect tense. "Ron said" as opposed to "Ron says" or "Ron had said."

Quant: I meant this as kind of the ending, what happens to people during Harry's last adventure in the first book. For example, Ron and Hermion would go on the adventure w/ Harry. Dumbledore would tell how he was summoned away from the adventure, then figured out what was going on and saved Harry. For other students, it may be better to show the aftermath of the adventure, when Harry's in the hospital and the entire school discovers what happens.

I shall now go pleasantly stew in my wrath now! biggrin.gif

Does this mean that as Quirrel, I can describe every gruesome detail of my slow painful death??? This could be very fun. I'm getting all excited now. I'm glad I picked Quirrel.

HAHAHA, Hagrid of course! I am very mad at him after his fiasco in Book Five. I have a habit of thinking that characters are real. I've held a grudge against Frodo for quite some time... stupid git, trying to keep the ring....

Also, everyone, don't forget to work together if you've got an idea that will take other character's involvement. Don't be afraid to PM the other people in the order and get together a little tete-a-tete (sp? French, stupid French lessons were so long ago...)

Also, a GREAT BIG THANK YOU in advance to everyone that's participating. I'm so childishly happy and filled with glee (yes, GLEE) that y'all wanna participate. I feel like the kid in PE who everyone wants to play with laugh.gif

Also *ahem* note the graphic. This is going in HPA...

Hehe, I was wondering when someone would ask smile.gif

It's a little sprite of the main character in an anime called "Inuyasha." Inuyasha is half-human, half-dog-demon. So he looks like a boy, but he has dog ears and some dog traits, including scratching his ear with his foot. It's a HILARIOUS show, and really awesome. It comes on during Adult Swim on Cartoon Network. The red suit is made from fire rats' fur and is stronger than armor smile.gif

Cat, did you intend this as a prequel for another part of your story for the first week? If so, do you want us to leave a space for you to put in the rest of your story?

It's really cute, tho, love the way you've got Hagrid's dialogue down smile.gif

Also, advance warning... mine is coming up a bit long. *cough* very long. Don't think that I intend any sort of page limit on this thing, people! Mine's probably going to end up TOO long...

BTW, pinkpanther, I'm not including Hermione in my version. I wanted to, but it was getting too long as it was, and I figured you'd have that covered wink.gif

I started writing mine last night, and I found that it was harder than I expected, It's really hard, because I've always had a sort of soft spot for Quirrel, even though I know he's an evil git. I'm running out of good insults for He-who-must-not-be-named to use against Quirrel too, so if any of you have any really good insults could you post them here or PM me?

RMM where are you starting your story from. I was kinda thinkingas professor school would start for them early, and with Harry Potter coming to the school (which all the teachers seemed to have known he was coming). I was thinking that DD had a "beginning of year meeting" with the teachers.... what do you think?

I started with Quirrel getting up in the morning at his house, getting ready to go to Hogwarts. He's having a discussion with Voldemort and that's where I left off. You've brought up an interesting point Bakbam, you, SiriuslyIrish, McG's Cat, and I need to iron out what all of the teachers are doing. They can't all just show up at school the same time as the students. I have an idea, we're going to have to have a staff meeting of some sort, so, SiriuslyIrish- if possible could you send us a list of things that Dumbledore will say in the staff meeting, and we can all put that in our stories, that will sort of unify them, then we can do whatever else we want to with our characters until the sorting ceremony and feast.

I'm going to lay out some possible teacher guidelines. (Feel free to add or to dispute anything I put.
-The teachers don't live there over the summer, so they must have homes elsewhere, I propose that they have to be at Hogwarts by ten a.m. on the first day of school.
-They drop off their stuff in their offices and hurry off to a staff meeting at 10:30.
-After the staff meeting the staff can arrange their office or do whatever until fivish or what ever time is about an hour before the students arrive, then they all assemble in the Great Hall.
-After the feast they can go off in their seperate directions and do whatever they want.

They all need to arrive around the same general time in order to make everything believable. If anyone else has anymore suggestions please contribute. Hagrid of course only needs to worry about the Staff meeting, so you're off the hook for the most part, McG's Cat.

I just finished my scene! Well, really, writing about a big feather duster has it's perks. What? Title? er... it got snatched by the phantom title snatcher! Ok, ok, I'll edit one in. I just forgot. Honest. Won't happen again.

And KUDOS for the scenes so far. Love it. They're all so much longer than mine... I'll deal.

Hagrid lives at Hogwarts year-round... Trelawney also... somehwere here Evlpez posted a thing from SugarQuill about teachers living on campus/at castle... so its ok for some of them to be there already and its ok for some to live elsewhere or be on sabatical or traveling...

Also Hagrid is only game-keeper/keeper of the keys at this point, so he could sit in on a meeting with all of you, but probably wouldn't be included in the academic part.

I have a question. Voldemort is sharing Quirrels body, does that include his brain? Does Voldemort know everthing that Quirrel is thinking?

*sniff* Look! Team work! Unity! It's all coming together so beautifully! laugh.gif

Zy, great add. You gave me a totally new way of looking at Hedwig. I've always envisioned her as something of a motherly figure, but you gave her a really funny twist smile.gif

RMM-- I think that looks awesome... it's a great idea to have a teacher's meeting.

About Quirrel... I don't think they would, but I'm no authority. Certainly Quirrel doesn't share Voldie's brain, otherwise Voldie wouldn't need to tell Quirrel what to do. However, Voldie does have those force-like powers to look into people's minds, and I can only image that's increased when he's sharing someone's body. On the other hand, Voldie is at his weakest point now, and may not be up to exerting much of his power.

I would think so RMM, but who knows?

MGC You are correct in that thought of certain teachers living at the school.

I was thinking the meeting would be more of a discussion about the Sorcerers stone and of Harry coming to the school ( the teachers should treat him fairly, he may be a celebrity but he is still a wizard in training sort of thing)

I bet Voldy has complete control of Quirrell... just lets Q do the boring things he trusts him not to mess up (like teaching classes and being as unobtrusively Quirrell-y to convince the real world he's innocuous)....

At least that's the take I have on their symbiotic relationship.

I always though Hedwig was a guy. Oh well, It was really funny Zym!

Moony-Thanks for the support in the non- mind reading area, I think that's wha I'm going to go with unless someone else can bring up a better case for the other side. It'll be easier if I can have Quirrel think without having to worry about Voldey all the time.

In the staff meeting they also need to cover normal school things, perhaps introduce new faculty members if there are any. Do all of the teachers know about the Philosopher's Stone, or only the ones that are guarding it?

I just hope that Quirrel's able to get in some really nasty thoughts about Voldie... smile.gif

Insults from Voldie to Quirrel:
--Squirelly-quirrelly!
--Unobtrusive cowardly turbaned lump of mortal flesh
--Voldie-holder tongue.gif
--Quaking Quirrel
--Foul-smelling thin-skinned imbecilic wretch

Oo, that's fun!

Hehehe, it comes from not liking people, haha smile.gif

--Quivering spineless garlic infested cad
--Yellow-bellied, pink-eyed, purple-turbaned git
--So stupid he couldn't put on a turban if it didn't come pre-wrapped
--So ugly that his head actually looks better with Voldie sticking out the back end

Quirrel to Voldie
--Hollow headed Harry hater
--Lord of the Dark--b/c it sure is dark stuck under a turban!

Ooooooooh, 10:40 you're writing from the future! Is there anything that I need to know that happens in the future, It's only 9:50 here. The future!!! That reminds me of one time on Conan when he was "talking" to President Bush, while he was in England and Pres. Bush kept telling Conan that he was talking to him from the future, and that people did strange things in the future like driving on the wrong side of the road, and talking in strange accents. It was really funny.

Hedwig is female. She's refered to as "she" throughout the books. It's one of the more obscure movie mistakes: Since female snowy owls have duller plumage, streaked with grey and black, "She" in the movie is actually a guy. Wierd, hey? Oh... and I'm sorry for my spelling mistakes and such: I just plunked it down while inspiriation was there. McGon's Cat already pointed out many of my mistakes. I think I'll hide my face now. and then go back and edit. Oh well, can't all be perfect. Oh, and about them apparating. Can't I have them apparate until juuust outside hogwarts grounds, and then hop in?

I think the schedule's fine, I just happened to have a bit of extra time this weekend, or else I probably wouldn't have posted yet. In the future I might need the whole time period, but I don't know yet. wizard.gif

That is a very nice addition, Pink !

This line is brilliant, Bakbam, absollutely brilliant! Loved the entry and can't wait to see what else you have in store for us.

Also---don't know if you two planned this---but it was great reading Bakbam's entry followed by Cat's. That was great: someone who was absolutely dreading the year followed directly by someone who'd been looking forward to it for 10 years! What a great contrast smile.gif

Wow, it's amazing what not wanting to watch stupid teeny bopper soap operas will do with Writer's Block! It completely disolved it and I was finally able to write my entry! yay! I hope it's up to par. I think part of the reason I had writer's block was because I would read all of yours and have to go back and completely change around the page I had written because I didn't feel it was up to the standard you guys set. Great job everyone!!! I commend you and blame your excellent stories for my writer's block!!! runaway.gif

Neville is up and ready for all the terrible reveiws.

*Hides behind the box so doesn't get hit by the rotton tomatoes*

Acctually I think Neville was alot easier to write for than Snape was. I just love them both so much:)

Bakbam, come out from behind the tomatoes box! That was awesome smile.gif The cards scene was good, but I liked the way you kept up his parents in the story. I can only imagine how much that would be on a kid's mind, but if I had written the story I would have left that part completely out. Good thing you wrote it and not me!

Great job Bam!!! I loved it, I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Neville and now I just want to go give him a hug. I loved how you stuck in the wand thing. It was great. The only problem I had, (don't worry it's not a tomato throwing problem) was that his Gran was too nice. she needed to be more crochety and grumpy, but Neville was perfect and since he's the main character, that means your story was perfect too!!!

I always pictured her as very loving, but sturn. There was not an instince in the scene that would require a stern gran.

Thank you guys. I am having fun with this challange.smile.gif

I've sort of got Gran pictured as someone who expresses her love by being over protective and super-stern. On the other hand, Neville's acceptance into Hogwarts and first day would be really emotional and likely to bring forth "softer" feelings. Either way, I've got new pictures of both Neville and Gran from your scene, so yipee! smile.gif

Aw... thanks for the offer. That WOULD be fun. But, the plays aren't anything even remotly HP. No letters. No owls. No wizards. No magic. Just... wierdness. Does that qualify? Oh well, I'd better get back to brainstorming on what to do with our fav. owl on Halloween night. Hm...

Siriusly, that was a really good entry. It wasn't trite at all; I particularly liked this passage:

QUOTE
Make no attachments, he told himself. ...And Albus felt like a guilty father who had forgotten his son's birthday, missing out on his first introduction to the wizarding world.

That was really tightly written. Kudos!

Great job Bakbam and Siriusly. I just have a small bone to pick with everyone.

((takes a moment to compose self and switch into character))

My name is professor Quirrell!!! Note the two L's at the end of my name and be sure to abide by them! I must have respect!!! The Dark Lord resides in the back of my head, c'mon people that's gotta count for something!!! Please, just remember that my name is spelled with two L's!!!

((shakes head, and Quirrell slips back into subconscious))

Phew, I hate it when he does that, I almost can't wait until round three, then maybe when he dies he'll stop haunting me!!!

Come to think of it though, does Quirrell really die? Dumbledore merely says that Voldemort left him to die, it doesn't say that he actually did, though the movie insinuates that he does. According to the Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter Quirrell possibly did not die and could be coming back in a later book, but then again this is the same book that says that Lupin and James may have switched bodies and therefore Lupin is actually James, and the real Lupin died in James's body. I don't buy much of what they say in that book but they do make a couple interesting points.

I find both of those theories a bit far-fetched, actually... especially the body-switching thing. What bits of the books does the writer use to substantiate these theories, do you know Rons? Is this a real book - or material published online?

For your sake, I certainly hope Quirrell's dead. Now - if he's talking to you in your head, does that mean Voldy is, too? Could they at least help you with your homework fom time to time? tongue.gif

If they were to help me with my homework I'm sure they'd tell me all the wrong answers just to spite me. Evil gits.

It's a real book. I got it for my birthday, it goes through each book chapter by chapter and analyzes it. The actual analysis is pretty good but there's a section at the end called "The Restricted Section" that has all of these stupid far-fetched theories. I'll look up the bits on Quirrell and get back to you. The James/Lupin thing seemed wholly unsubstaniated to me, but I haven't looked at it in a long time. I'll reread all the stupid stuff again tonight.

Okay, I typed up some of the stuff for you all to peruse. It's all from The Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter by Galadriel Waters and Prof. Astre Mithrandir (obviously fake names taken from LOTR. Galadriel=Elven Queen and Mithrandir=elvish for grey pilgrim, a.k.a. Gandalf.)

Here is some of the three pages of evidence trying to support the stupid James/Remus thing.

In the legend of Romulus and Remus, Remus was killed by his brother (or his brother’s followers).

Remus Lupin is probably dead. The Remus J. Lupin we know is probably James Potter switching into Lupin’s body with a switching spell. (Was that Lily’s work?)

J.K.R. is dropping hints all over the place about the Lupin septology
(wouldn't septilogy make more sense?) mystery. She has made it clear there is something very special about Lupin. When asked who her favorite character’s are, J.K.R. always specifically mentions that she loves Lupin. In interviews, such as with the BBC, she says it was Lupin that made Book 3 so important for her to write.

Book 1 evidence is:
-How did Dumbledore get James’ Invisibility Cloak, and how did Hagrid get the key to the Potter’s vault?

Book 3 evidence is:
-Unlike everyone else, Lupin never stared at Harry’s scar or mentioned his eyes or resemblance to James. (ch. 5) Lupin simply addresses Harry by name as if he was already very familiar with him.
-Trelawney said that Lupin “Positively fled when I offered to crystal gaze for him ...” (ch 11) He obviously afraid of revealing something . We might have thought he was just afraid that she might discover he’s a werewolf, however, we learned that the whole staff already knew of that.

Blah blah blah it goes on forever with stupid stuff like that.

This is the Quirrell excerpt from the book.

-Quirrell might be back. Read it again carefully. Dumbledore only said that Voldemort “left Quirrell to die”, but no one ever confirmed that he did, indeed, die. Harry almost died too--but Dumbledore saved Harry. Did Dumbledore also manage to save Quirrell? Don’t forget according to Dumbledore’s comment to Harry at the Pensieve, there is someone besides Voldemort who is “getting stronger.” Voldemort thinks Quirrell died, but he sure didn’t stick around to help, did he?

Well, that's it, not actually there's about 400 more pages where that came from.
