A Magic Box has been left on the head table in the Great Hall. One by one, characters pick up the box, speculate on its contents and leave it in another location. It's clearly marked "Wizard's Box", so we know the space inside is magical and could hold just about anything. None of the characters who find the box can open it, though they will each try more than once. No charm or key works, so we never really find out what it holds inside.- Describe finding the box in the location in which it was left in the previous post.
- What does the character(s) think or hope is inside?
- How does he/she try to open it? (Try a couple of new attempts beyond the easy choices.)
- Give the box away or leave it somewhere for another character(s) to find.
Each submission in this challenge must follow the previous one, so that all of them together make one continuing story. Please do not end your submission in such a way that it is impossible for another writer to find the Magic Box and continue the story.
All submissions must have a unique title and be posted in this topic Note to ferrets: Remember that you are writing fan fiction as though you are the Floo-Between user you've chosen. This means that if you've chosen Snape, you are writing as though Snape is writing fan fiction, not as though he is a part of the story. Each character may write as many submissions as they wish for this challenge, as long as each submission is significantly different from their others. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday December 1st.The Voting Booth for Round 3 will open on Sunday, November 14th. Click this text to go there. Posts which are not prefaced by the Character Form will be deleted.
When you post, you'll see a button (up by the "code" and "list" buttons) that says "blank character form." If you press that button, the form will appear in your post. Just edit in your character's details and put the body of your text in the middle. If you've chosen not to use a signature for your character, delete that part of the form.
Do not edit your submissions for this challenge once they are posted in the Forum. _________________________When rating submissions, please use the following score card to guide you:Score Card__ Ferret Points for following the mission __ Ferret Points for technical (grammar, spelling are consistent with the author's character) __ Ferret Points for overall creativity __ Ferret Points for characterization __ Ferret Points for adherence to canon _________________ Total out of 10 maximum Ferret Points0 = Poor, 1 = Okay/good, 2 = Great_________________________

WestHamFan Sixth Year Floo Ferret DEVIANTS & DUNGBOMBSArgus Filch limped through the large double doors into the Great Hall. He sniffed the air suspiciously and scanned the floor, checking for dungbombs. He had been sure he had caught a whiff of the foul odor just moments ago in the corridor.
“Oh yes, someday,” Filch mumbled. “The Headmaster will let me teach them miscreants a lesson. And when they hang helpless by their toes from the shiny manacles in my office, I’ll stuff dungbombs right up their noses and see how they like the stink. Oh, yes…”
Something suddenly flashed in the corner of his eye and he turned to find the skeletal Mrs. Norris pacing back and forth across the top of the head table. Filch met her yellow eyes and searched them for information.
“You found something, did ya,” Filch said eagerly, walking towards the head table as fast as his limp allowed.
Mrs. Norris used her tail to indicate an ancient looking square box which sat directly in the middle of the table. The small chest appeared to be made of metal and felt almost warm to the touch when Filch picked it up. The top was clearly labeled, “Wizard’s Box”.
“Wizard’s Box, eh?” Filch whispered, wondering what may be inside.
The name reminded him of one of the extra items that he could have purchased with the Kwikspell course that he had tried several years ago. Rather than spending his entire savings, he had purchased only the course, which unfortunately had not worked for him in the least bit. Even the simplest of spells were too difficult. Filch wondered if the contents of this box could help him.
He tried to pry what appeared to be the lid open, but had no luck. It simply wouldn’t budge. After taking a look around to make sure no one else was in sight to see what he was about to do, Filch raised the box above his head and threw it to the floor with all his might.
He picked the box up once more, disappointed that the force of hitting the hard stone had not been enough to pop the lid. Filch was about to attempt the maneuver one more time, when he heard a loud meow outside the doors of the Great Hall. It sounded like Mrs. Norris.
Filch ran for the double doors and arrived in the corridor just in time to see his cat round the corridor in hot pursuit of another mischief maker. Torn between the desire to catch a student making trouble and the hope of finding something to help his magical ability, Filch hesitated a moment before carefully hiding the box behind a suit of armor. He would have come back for it later, duty called. West Ham Rocks!

num1chudleyfan wizard in training Floo Ferret Secrets and SneakingHarry's breath came in harsh gasps as he peered around the corner into the entrance hall. That had been close, if he hadn't been wearing the invisibility cloak he may not have made it. Luckily forgetting the cloak wasn't a mistake he made that often anymore, especially since Ron was always there to remind him, as best friends usually do. Harry didn't feel like such a good best friend himself at the moment. He sank down on the floor to catch his breath and try to remember exactly why it was he hadn't told Ron he was going out. He didn't know, so he obviously hadn't had a very good reason, there wasn't much he could do now he decided, (even though there probably was.) He closed his eyes, it was late and probably time for him to start back to the dormitory; but wait ... Something caught his eye, a box, a miniature metal chest really, about the size of the box Ron kept his chess pieces in, was sitting behind the suit of armor to Harry's left. Curiosity as it so often did, got the best of Harry and he reached over to examine it. Wizard's Box, he read trying to pull open the lid. "Locked," he mumbled. Staring at the box a moment longer Harry pulled out his wand, "Alohamora," he whispered, but the lid wouldn't budge. The metal felt warm under his fingers, the box although interesting, made Harry slightly uneasy, of course most things did. Harry often sensed danger when there was none, but there was always the occasion when he was right, and Harry thought that was all the time. Afraid of trying any noisier ways to get to the contents Harry stood up. Perhaps he should consult Hermione, even if he could get the box open he had no idea what was in it, he didn't even know where to begin. Perhaps Hermione had read about something like it somewhere, he could ask her, she knew everything. Harry decided, for safety's sake, to run the box to the room of requirement before bed and consult Hermione in the morning. Maybe he'd ask Ron about it too, but Ron wasn't usually to knowledgeable about this sort of thing, at least that's what Harry thought (even though Ron was the only pure blood of the trio.) So Harry stood up once more, still unsure what (if anything) he was going to tell Ron in the morning. R.A.T.S Ron against tap dancing spiders

LadyLioness Wicked Witch Floo Ferret "Hello! Is Anyone in there?"Luna Lovegood opened to door to the Room of Requirement, surprised to find no one inside. "Hello?" she said. Maybe they were practicing invisibility. Or maybe it was a joke. Were they playing a joke on her? She gazed around the room with her bulging eyes, wondering if she could somehow see through things like Moody could with his magical eyeball. Luna looked down at the "galleon" in her pocket to discover that she'd read the date wrong. The D.A. meeting was tomorrow. Luna looked around the room. While she was there, she might as well have a look. She never got to look at the books on the shelves up close. Maybe one of them had information on the elusive Double-Beaked Platybeast. As she approached the bookshelves, Luna noticed an object sitting on the table where the pillows used during stunning exercises were kept. It was a small, chest-like box. It seemed to be very old. "Hmm," said Luna dreamily. She noticed some words "Wizard's Box" etched on top. Wizard's Box? Is there a wizard in there? She'd read something about a group of wizards who had been close to discovering a secret colony of Crabblepatches being locked into a chest to prevent the discovery. Luna held the box up to her ear and shook it disinterestedly. She couldn't hear anything. She held it in front of her and shook it some more. "Hello!" she called. "Hello! Is anyone in there?" No response. If anyone was in there, their voices were too quiet for her to hear. Maybe if she opened it she could free them. Luna placed the box on one of the bookshelves. "Alohamora!" Nothing. "Diffindo!" The box shook a bit, but nothing opened. "I guess I'm not supposed to open it. Maybe I should take it to Hermione, she knows a lot about unlocking magical things. Everything, really." Picking up the box she walked out of the Room of Requirement and soon found herself in front of the portrait of the lady in the pink dress. Hermione said something about doing her homework in the Gryffindor common room after dinner. "Password?" asked the fat lady, looking down her thin, painted nose at Luna. "I don't know the password. I need to talk to Hermione." "I can't let you in without a password," she replied in annoyance. Luna stared at the portrait. "Could you tell her that I'm here?" "I'm not a messenger, young lady, I am an entrance guardian. No password, no entrance." Luna sighed disinterestedly. She placed the box on the floor beside the portrait. "Tell her Luna left this for her when she comes out." The fat lady simply glared at Luna in response as she walked towards the Ravenclaw common room. Luna thought about sending an owl to her father to ask about magical boxes. She could research earlier editions of the Quibbler so she could find a way to open it. Poor wizards. They must’ve been stuck in that box for five years. GRYFFINDOR

Arithmancy_Girl Pince's Pal Floo Ferret Slytherin Strikes AgainGinny Weasley left the Gryffindor common room intent on getting to the library as early as possible to study for her upcoming History of Magic exam. Her good friend, Hermione Granger, had recommended a book that would be an excellent reference for the essay portion of the test, titled A Guide to Medieval Sorcery. Ginny hoped it was available and had not been recently checked out by another student. As she stepped through the portrait hole, Ginny noticed the small metal chest sitting on the floor. She looked around wondering who could have left it behind. The tiny box seemed rather old and it appeared to have an engraving on the lid. Stooping to take a closer look, she read the label out loud. “Wizard’s Box.” Ginny gingerly shook the box, trying to determine its contents. Not hearing anything, she tried to pry the lid open with her wand. Her wand began to bend from the pressure and threatened to break. Time to try something else, Ginny thought to herself. A Blasting Curse could work, but it could also ruin the box and the contents. The new charm Professor Flitwick had taught her class yesterday would probably be a better spell to try. She aimed her wand at the box lid and murmured the incantation. “Aperio,” Ginny said slowly, taking care to use the proper swish and flick motion. The lid still did not budge. She began to wonder if it was some type of joke box. Perhaps, whoever had left it in the corridor was playing a prank on Gryffindor. If her suspicions were correct, it would be dangerous to leave the box here and equally dangerous to continue the attempt to open it. Gryffindor was scheduled to play Quidditch against Slytherin this weekend. Taking out one or more of the Gryffindor players would certainly give Slytherin the advantage they needed to win. Ginny quickly made a decision. Hurrying down the stairs, she left the box in the entrance of the Dungeons. Surely someone in Slytherin would find it there. If the box was returned to Gryffindor Tower, then she would know for sure it was a prank. BIBLIOGRAPHY Aylesworth, Miriam. A Guide to Medieval Sorcery Goshawk, Miranda. Catch_The_Snitch Seeker Floo Ferret Dumb Draco MalfoyMalfoy had decided he needed to go out onto the Quidditch Pitch for the next game, Gryffindor Vs. Slytherin as he wasn't a great seeker and needed alot of practice. He was tired, because he had spent so long looking at himself in the mirror, that he didn't notice the small box outside the common room. He tripped over it clumsly. He cursed the object that had made him look stupid, even though he doesn't usually need help with that. He picked up the box and looked on in disguist at the sight of its tatty appearance. It said, "Wizards Box" on it, which meant it could belong to anyone. He shook the box, but nothing happened. The box felt a little warm on his hands. He was curious as to what this box held inside. He had his broomstick, The Nimbus 2001, which was nowhere near as good as Harry's Firebolt and he envied Harry for having the best broomstick in the school. He hit the box with his broomstick several times before realising that it was a dumb idea in the first place. "What a waste of a box..." He said in his droning voice. He picked the box up again, thinking that it wasn't anything special, just a bit of rubbish. He smartened himself up, and even though he still looked like a slimy Slytherin he picked up the box again and walked towards the entrance hall. Here he got bored of the box and couldn't be bothered to find out if there was anything interesting inside it. Malfoy usually would get someone to find out for him, so then he could use the item to get at the Gryffindors, but the Gryffindors were too smart to fall for any of Malfoy's cheap tricks, especially with Hermione. He chucked the box on the floor, not caring about the noise it made. He continued to strut through the hall as if he owned the place, his second-rate broomstick in his hand. Note: My floo wasn't working properly and it deleted my title on the submission. So this is why I had to edit this, to put the title on my piece. Also, there seemed a be a bit of ash that got stuck on my piece which made a word appear that I didn't write! Sorry about all this and thank you. I don't go looking for trouble, trouble usually finds me.

Ekeltricity Ministry Worker Floor Ferret Ronald’s Sword Skills Ronald Weasley, a strapping young lad, stood in the great entrance hall of Hogwarts after coming to investigate a noise he had heard while patrolling as part of his Prefect duties. Finding nothing other than a box lying in the middle of the hall, he went over and picked it up. Ronald didn't immediately open it up; instead he looked over the box and found the words "Wizard's Box" etched on top. ""Wizard's Box"!" Ronald whispered to himself, "maybe there's something in which could help the Side of Light!" He quietly hid the box in his cloak, and went on with his rounds. When he finally reached his dorm, he first examined the box for curses, with the Revelatio spell. Only when he was sure it was free of Dark Influence, did he attempt to open it. The box wouldn’t open, no matter how hard Ronald tried to pry the lid open. He struggled with it bootlessly for several minutes, knowing that some items could be damaged by magic. However, when it was plain that it could not be opened, and there was no keyhole or latch to be seen, he went for his wand. “Alohamora.” This charm did not work, however, and he was loath to try a more powerful one, as it could damage the contents of the box. Ronald went over to the nearest suit of armor and grabbed a sword. Placing the box on the ground he raised the sword above his head and brought it down with all his might and main, hoping against hope that he wouldn’t damage the contents when the box smashed. The box did not, however, smash. Instead, the sword received an incredibly ugly nick. Ronald grimaced and handed the sword back to the suit of armor, which took it grudgingly, before leaving muttering about seeing the caretaker about sword thieving hooligans. Ronald at this point decided that he could not, in deed, open the box on his own. “I’ll have to bring it to a teacher,” he thought to himself, “one I can trust.” Knowing that it was after curfew, and that even Prefects could lose points for this, he dashed through the halls to the nearest teacher: Madam Pomfrey. He knew where her quarters were, having had to bring her to the infirmary many a time on account of his friends. “Madam,” he said politely, once she’d answered his timid knock, “I found something in the great hall, and I don’t know what it is. It could be dangerous, but it could also greatly aid our cause. I didn’t want to leave it in the dorm, and I couldn’t take it to anybody else since it’s already after curfew and…” “I’ll take care of it,” she assured him, taking the box. “Leave all to me.” Ronald returned hot foot to his dorm, with a great feeling of accomplishment. I nearly killed myself with a toaster, and all I got was this lousy siggy.

labellefille Champion Charmante Floo Ferret Snoopy Nurse Lady Madame Pomfrey looked at the box the silly redhaired boy gave her. There were words on it, «wizard's box» she didn't know what to think. She was only a nurse, she didn't no too much. There was a hurt student in one of the hospital beds, and she really wanted to bother her by poking at her and asking stupid questions of her, but she did not want to let the box alone. Mme Pomfrey walked to other wall so the poor student would not see and tried open the box. it would not open. «I wonder if one of these nose opening potions would work.» She grabbed a potion bottle and poured the insides onto the wizard's box. It did not work. «How silly, this is a box, not a nose.» The woman stared at the box and then poked it like one of her patience. «Does it open there? There?» She poked it in all sorts of places, and if the box was human it would be not happy with the nurse. She wondered what was inside. Could there be potions? Mme Pomfrey liked potions, smelly potions. She put them on burns and cuts. She liked nasty potions, too. She made poor girls drink them when she should not. People don't like nasty potions, and people don't like smelly potions. The nurse should be nice. Dumbledore, the wizard with the long silver hairs and the funny yellow glasses would now what to do. Mme Pomfrey walked across the filthy halls with ridiculous armor suits until she found the headmaster office. She hit the door and went in when he said to. «Madam Pomfrey, what are you doing here? I am not hurt» said the old wizard. «I know. I will not bother you like I do the students. Bill Weasley's brother gave me this box. He thinks something useful was in here. I tried to open it but I can't. I don't know how. Can you think of how to open the box?» The nice old man look down at the box. «Leave it on the desk. I will send it by owl to Bill Weasley. He's a very smart young man, he will know how to open it. He's good at lifting up curses off things» «I should've thought of that. But I am a school nurse, I'm not that smart.» «OK. You go back and bother the students. Leave the box to me.» The Mme Pomfrey left, and Prof Dumbledore looked at the box. I hope everyone liked my story. It is my first time to write a fan fiction story in English. My English is getting better. I don't see why we can't write French it's so much more easy. Mother_Hen Leader of the Pack Floo Ferret A ChallengeAlbus Dumbledore smiled fondly at “The Wizard’s Box”. It had been some time since he had come across one of these. He wondered what could be inside this one. There were not many possessions which he desired that he did not already have. Of course, one could never have enough Lemon Drops. It was, however, highly unlikely that this box contained Lemon Drops. Marred with scratches and gouges, it was obvious others had tried to gain entry to the box recently. Albus wondered what they had hoped for as they struggled to open it. He decided to try opening the box with his mind only. A difficult task. He placed it upon the desk in his office and focused his energies upon it. The lid remained closed. “Alas, not today,” Albus said and smiled. Perhaps, one of the students would be up to the challenge. Albus considered the proper place to leave the box and finally decided to place it near the entrance of the Great Hall. When the students made their way to breakfast, one of them would surely find it. Whether or not they would be able to open it was another story. YOU COULD HAVE DIED!

Proud_Pureblood Seeker Floo Ferret Stupid GryffindorsHarry Potter and Ron Weasley made their way down the stairs of the Entrance Hall, brooms in hand. They were up very early, heading out to the quidditch pitch for some pre-dawn practice, which they sorely needed as they were to play against Slytherin later that week. They really didn't have much of a chance, as Weasleys's keeper skills were still abysmal and Potter's luck on the pitch was bound to run out soon. Neither had mentioned the Wizards' Box to the other, but as they passed the door to the Great Hall, each slowed as they noticed the box sitting on the floor near them. "What the... I thought I..." Ron muttered. "What's that doing here?" Harry asked in a whisper. The two looked at each other, baffled. "Do you know anything about Wizards' Boxes, Ron?" Potter asked. Not being able to really do much of anything on his own, he hoped his friends would solve this mystery for him. "I found that last night but I couldn't open it. I thought I left it in the Room of Requirement, but it found its way here, somehow." Potter went over and picked up the box again. "Really? I found it last night too, only I gave it to Madam Pomfrey. I wonder why she'd leave it out here for just anybody to find. Did she open it? Maybe she knows who it belongs to and left it here for them to find." Weasley began to drool a bit. He'd really hoped he would be the one to open it and find some money, but he couldn't, pathetic wizard that he is. Maybe the person who owned it would pay him a big fat reward for finding it. He started to think about all the things he could afford with the reward. "We should take this to Hermione. She's the smart one. She'll be able to open it if anyone can. I'll bet she's read everything ever written about this sort of thing." Potter paused, running his fingers over the numerous tool marks on the box. Someone went through a lot of trouble to try and open this thing, he thought. There must be something very important inside. An idea struck Potter. He nearly fell over from the shock of it, not being used to thinking for himself. "Ron, what if this box has something in it that we could use to defeat the Dark Lord?" "Nah, it's probably got a bunch of money in it. Something as important as a weapon against V... Vold.. You-Know-Who wouldn't be laying around Hogwarts. It would have been by destroyed by You-Know-Who long ago; he'd never allow something like that to exist, if it ever did," Weasley reasoned. Potter was more optimistic. Every time he'd been face to face with the Dark Lord, he'd managed to weasel his way out alive with pure dumb luck or help from someone else. This was just the sort of dumb luck he needed; to find the secret to winning inside this box. I can finally avenge my parents' deaths, he thought, a tear running down his cheek. They agreed to take it to Granger. All the way up to Gryffindor tower Potter envisioned the hero party they would throw for him, wizards carrying him through the streets on their shoulders and chanting his name. Weasley was lost in his own thoughts; leaving the miserable shack he lived in and... and what? He wouldn't know what to do with more than two knuts to rub together. They crept through the portrait hole to the Gryffindor common room to find Granger sitting at a table already, a big stack of books in front of her. Potter put the box on the table in front of her. "Hermione, can you open this for us? I think it might be important," Potter said. "Like money or something," Ron added, a bit of spittle hanging from his chin. "It might be more important than that, Ron," Potter reminded him. He turned to Granger. "What if it's something I can use to save the world again?" Granger laughed. "Like what, Harry, a copy of Defeating the Dark Lord for Dummies? Honestly you two, haven't you ever read a book? This is a Wizards' Box. I'm muggleborn and a witch. If you knew anything, it's that although I may be the smartest, most brilliant witch ever to attend this school, I still won't be able to open this box. Now leave me alone, I'm busy looking through these books for something I don't already know." Weasley and Potter stood there, looking stupid. They knew she'd opened her mouth, but they didn't really understand anything she'd said. "I know," Ron said, "Let's ask the twins! We'll leave it here with Hermione and go owl them right away and see if they have any tricks to get it open." The boys left, forgetting their quidditch practice, and headed to the owlry.

WestHamFan Sixth Year Floo Ferret It Returns Ginny walked back to Gryffindor Tower. She hoped to find Hermione in the common room. They were going to brush their hair and do other girl stuff. She gave the Fat Lady the new password -Ferretboy- and made her way to the common room. Hermione was alone and busy with her homework at one of the tables. Ginny gasped when she saw the Wizard's Box sitting next to Hermione's enormous stack of books. Ginny had studied in the library all morning and had completely forgotten about the mysterious box. "Where did you get that?" Ginny screamed, upset to find the menacing box back at Gryffindor Tower. "From Harry and Ron," Hermione answered. "They wanted me to help them open it." "Don't do it! It's a trick! Slytherin is up to something. I knew it!" Ginny yelled. "Quick, let's get rid of it!" She grabbed the box before Hermione could protest and chucked it out an open window. JustBeMimble Fizzing Wizbee Floo Ferret AwakeningLuna Lovegood awoke, who was dozing under a tree on the Hogwarts grounds, was startled to consciousness by a loud thud. She woke with a start. What had I been dreaming about? she wondered, looking around for the source of the noise. Something about Ronald… and an attic…Strange. She noticed a box at the base of Gryffindor tower. Looking up, she saw Hermione peering down, waving. Luna smiled and waved back. “Is this box yours?” she yelled to Hermione. Hermione shook her head and disappeared from sight. A wizard’s box, Luna thought as she read the inscription. Probably full of pogrebins.Luna ambled off, leaving the box untouched. Plants are people too.

Crystal_Gazer Astrolabe Floo Ferret
Food?
The ominous undergrowth beneath the trees at the edge of the Forbidden Forest rustled and parted before springing back quaveringly to its normal position. A particularly odd, though foreseen, breeze seemed afoot on the Hogwarts grounds this day. An occasional snuffing noise could be heard, indicating a presence of frightful portent, had any unfortunate been near enough to hear.
Moments passed. Sounds from the Castle indicated classes were just settling in when the abandoned metal box tipped onto its side. Near it an ill omen occurred; four spots of grass, the size of dinner plates, were squashing down of their own accord. The Castle, sensing this, quieted further as the little box rolled a couple more times. The coffer then propelled itself off a few feet to left, with the augury indentations in the grass rhythmically following.
For no apparent reason it lifted into the air about five feet, partially obscured itself, and bobbed toward the Lake. Near the shore the box dropped down, situating itself in the sandy shingle. With a slight crunching of gravel, the possessed chest rolled back up the gentle slope about a meter. It partially obscured itself once more, then flew into the air and plummeted back to earth, bouncing along the lawn for twenty meters.
Had anyone sensitive to the invisible forces been close, a definite snort would have been audible, followed by footsteps crunching along the edge of the beach. A disruption of the surface tension where the water lapped the shore could also have been seen shortly thereafter, followed by the whoosh of powerful unseen wings.
All of this does not bode well. A true seer is able to detect servants of the Dark Side as they await their next unsuspecting victim.
The box sat patiently in the sun on the lawn.
This is the Year of the Monkey Beware!

Sockless_Person Ear Wax Flavour Floo Ferret Evil LoomsTime slowly passed, but none of the students came out. It was a very mysterious thing indeed. But then again, it was a Hogsmeade weekend, and most of the students had decided to enjoy their trip, which didn't occur every week. The sun had gone behind a wall of clouds, as if it wanted to simply go to sleep, instead of doing its work. The wind howled, and yet, the box remained untouched. A cold, far beyond that of any wind came upon the grounds. It was a rotting cold, which destroyed all life, as shadows fell. A black figure loomed up ahead, levitating in mid-air and seeming as if it didn't fit in the picture at all. The Dementor crept close to the lake, leaving a trail of dead nature behind it. It crept closer to the box, which lay idle in its position, not noting the horrible thing that was making its way closer to it. The Dementor was hungry. Voldemort had not allowed them to feed on any human life since they rejoined him, and their hunger was growing, their patience waning. It stopped, its rattling breathe causing the Whomping Willow nearby, to stretch as far away from it as possible. It looked at the box, trying to sense if it were a human-being. If it were, the poor person wouldn't have had much life left in it, even without having the loathsome kiss administered upon him. The Dementor stretched its hand forward, trying feel the human flesh it longed so much. It continued emitting a cold aura, wondering if whatever was in front of it could be lured. No, it couldn't. The desire was deepening. It couldn't wait any longer now! It swooped down, lunging at the innocent box, lowering its raggy hood, to reveal a hideous form, and a soul-sucking mouth. It drew in breathe, already imagining the first foul taste it had not savoured in months. But nothing happened. It continued staring at the box, puzzled. It had been so sure it had felt a human-life nearby. Suddenly, it straightened up, gazing at the grey, saddened sky. Voldemort was calling for its presence. Without any further hindrance, it swooped up higher and higher, until it couldn't be seen but for a dot in the sky. An evil, menacing dot. The sky seemed to clear as the figure disappeared. The sun came out after its momentary play of hide-and-seek, shining once more on the beautiful Hogwarts Grounds. Yet, in the green confines of a quivering bush, young Dennis Creevey lay shuddering, with cold and with deathly fright, at having seen a Dementor before his sight. And I sing, “Odd socks here, Odd socks there, Odd socks everywhere!”
