I See..., What do you hate/love seeing in an ff? Options

Oooh...can we keep them numbered? So we can reach a thousand and say...wo, we must hate/love a lot of stuff How about, Odd hates, Even likes....but we don't have to do that if you fellow ferrets don't like the idea!

1) I hate author's notes in the middle of a story:

It was a dark night, a stormy night [that sounds soooo cool, right?]. The owls sung their mournful tunes [do you know what I mean?], and the skies shone an inky black [isn't that a nice phrase....]

2) I love a well written story, meaning: a well thought out plot, plausible situations, and characters, and the lot....

3) I hate when a good fic is stopped midway, and deserted ::wipes away tear::

I hate Mary Sues...
Some idiot (male or female) who puts their sappy little self-character into weak stories, generally poorly written, to embarrass themselves in front of god and king.... not even realizing how pathetic it comes off... <sigh>...

I'm so glad everybody here is of such grand quality that it never ever rears its ugly head. You guys are just amazing! I'm truly honoured to know you!

... to the point that the author can do something with a character that I generally would dislike, but if it is done well and with panache', it is wonderful.

I hate drastic punctuation fixes, like the double slash. As in:
//I hate meatings// telepathized Harry.
Or, "~Blah blah blah~" said Harry, in parseltounge.
I hate overused punctuation in general. Such as:

She went in... She saw him! - he was dirty - so was she- and the this huge appostrophe ' took over the world!!! ... And then it was dark *again*.

I nitpick about grammar mistakes, and plot holes.
I nitpick about people who decide to stuff Snape in leather pants. Or have Hermione drop school and become a ditsy brunette. Or have Harry suddenly become an egomaniac postal worker who thinks the colour blue is the answer to life.

I also despise plot holes! Especially in a scenario where an author has Hemione/Giant Squid [not even in humor context...::faint::] and conviniently leaves out how could that happen. This is something all ff writers must consider....hmmmm......

I hate it when people write things completely out of cannon. It bugs me. Unless of course its for the EEFFC, in which case it doesn't bother me in the least.

And I also hate when people post things like this:

Won DaY Hairry went to the lake to be alowne. He wuz sad becuse his parents wrer ded. Hermy came down and then felled in the lake. the giANt squId ate her becuz it wus hungry. then ron was eaTing a pieese of bread when Snape sed, "You have done sumthing wrong pleese cum with meee." And Ron went with snape and hermy popped out uf the squid becus hairry killed it cuz he is the powerfullest wizard ever. The End.

Yeah. That just really bugs me...

And I love a well written fic. Some thing that has a plot and is well thought out. I'm pretty open though. The only kind of FF I wont read is the kind I said I wouldn't read. Yeah. Hehe.

Oh! Yeah, that bugs me! Where did 'mione come from anyway? Any type of nickname for a character that JKR hasn't written annoys me. And now I wont abrieviate Voldie for Voldemort because JKR doesn't like it. That was the only one I used though.

Oh, I really hate it when people say, "I'll read your fic if you read mine." And so I start reading theirs and they never read mine. Its mean.

oh, I also dont like impossible ships. They annoy me. And though I will read a fic with a G/D or D/Hr shipping, I really dont think that will ever ever ever ever ever ever....happen. I just don't. Draco will never turn nice, let alone date a muggleborn or a 'blood traitor" or whatever the Weasleys are considered. But thats only my opinion. And if its well written, then of course I have no problem reading it.

I hate "unusual" slash pairings like Harry/Snape.

I hate relationships within a family like Ron/Ginny and Fed/George.

I hate sudden "change-of-character"s. I can take it if Draco learns a lesson, but it has to be slow and he has to learn it IN CHARACTER.

Okay, I hate song fics that have absolutely nothing to do with the song.

I hate bad grammar, spelling and punctuation. We spend sooooo much time on that in class that I can't stand it when people do it wrong.

I hat 'kewl talk', like this: Harry waz lyk sooooo happy that Ginny <3ed him dat he jumped in da lake n 8 a pasty!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111!!1!lolololol!!!1!!!1!!!!!111111!

I hate it when people post their whole story in one paragraph.

I love (obviously) well written stories.

Here is a link to a story that is a 'play' on bad fanfction. It may have alot of you pressing the 'back' button, but if you can bear it, it's quite funny. Harry Potter and the [Insert Random Plot Device Here] by Demeter Tess Reading. I'm not actually sure if you'll be able to read it if you're not a member of TheSnitch though. *shrugs* Hopefully...

Definitely, the "paragraph" thing is annoying. I also hate one shots that have no explanation or purpose but to fill up space.

Ah yes, a long list coming. I hate:

1) American Exchange students. I haven't read a single good fic with them.

2) Author notes in the middle of stories

3) Fics when the author makes up an ending obviously because they've run out of ideas or just abandons a fic completely. Unfortunately I'm guilty of the second of these.

4) Time travel fics that are just rewrites of every other time travel fics out there.

5) Anything called Harry Potter and the Green Flame Torch, I honestly don't even bother reading the summary.

6)People who don't bother thinking up a decent title for their fic. eg. Harry Potter and the [insert just about anything here]

7)Severitus fics that are just a bad copy of Severitus' own version.
